Hi,

I am doing a degree in Business with Finance and I have to do my dissertation on a finance-related topic.

I just can't think of a topic or research question i want to do or that I have any interest in. I don't even like finance. I am just doing it for the sake of it especially considering that I am in my final year.

I'm stuck.

Oh dear. You won't like the workplace then.

When I was lagging in my dissertation, I ended up trying to squeeze a 10k word disseration in 2 weeks. It was difficult. I essentially tried to replicate a former study/regression model in new circumstances/with new data. It's a default option, but if you can think of something more interesting, then you should do that.

I don't plan to work in finance anymore.

At the moment, I guess I'll just keep on trying to read and think of anything I may want to do.

Also, I might just read past dissertations and see if any ideas spark.

Then the first person I would speak to is your advisor for your disseration. This is the sort of thing he/she is there for.

If you want, you can go through some of the recommended reading in the finance modules you have took; there are usually some finance journal articles that goes into more detail on certain topics.

The finance modules that I took were exam based so we didn't really have any recommended reading apart from the core textbook and practising questions, but I will have a look at academic journals to see if any ideas spark. Thank you
