True, it would be impossible and possibly immoral to force vegetarianism upon the whole planet, or even one person. But just because the whole of humankind isn't going to follow in your footsteps, is that a reason not to do it yourself?
no it isn't ..thats true..
i never said i am eating meat.. but even though i dont eat it i dont like to force other ppl to follow me..

the question is whether its morally wrong to eat meat..
i think it's naturall to eat meat ..
but its wrong to let animal live (and die) under such unhuman conditions..
so what we can do is to fight for their rights...but we will never achvieve the point where ppl will stop eating meat for sure.. (fortunately or unfortunately?)

Ah, right! I didn't know you were a veggie too - it seemed strange that you would go funny about killing a fly but be ok with eating meat!

I'd love it if everyone chose to become vegetarian, but it's not going to happen and I wouldn't want to force anyone to do it. I think there is a place for intelligent debate - part of the reason I became veggie was because I could no longer argue a case for eating meat - but no-one should judge another person's moral character on their choice over such a thing.

you know i ate meat for a long time..and then i just stopped for any reason..
i really dont remember when and why exactly i stopped but i know i am not going to start again : )
i just don't feel like eating it.. probably these some hidden subconcious reason : )

i think that the issue about being or not being veggie is kind of hard to discuss because it has come on the scene only recently.. dont know..maybe 30ago? (that's not that long)
before it was completely natural for ppl to eat meat and nobody even argued about it..
and suddenly it became a question of being morally wrong or right because of the development of meat trade and the always progressing degradation of the living codions of these animals (followed by many desease outbreaks)..

It's all natural.
That's not a valid argument. Naturalistic fallacy.

(Original post by Kuddly!)
as you said we are animals! would you eat another human?...
animals have souls and feelings too, just like us!!
Souls? Ha. Prove it. Go on.

(Original post by Kuddly!)
Dude tables and chairs dont have feelings! animals feel things, they are gods creatures just like the rest of us. And when we kill them, we literally let them suffer, Animals reproduce, they move, many cry! they are totally different from chairs and tables!
God's creatures? Ha. Again, prove it.

I say this as an 'amoral' vegetarian (I don't eat meat because I don't like the taste of meat and just prefer to eat a vegetarian diet because I like the food on it, not because I think it's immoral - I'm fairly neutral on the whole question).

If you're going to agrue God, he wouldn't have given us pointy, carnivores teeth if he hadn't meant us to eat meat.

Humans were obviously built to be omnivorous. We have all the predatory traits to enable us to hunt for food. Eyes facing forward for good dept perception, proper limb proportion for running or moving quietly, and the intellectual capability of outsmarting the prey. Last time I checked, most herbivores were pretty thick...

What about research that has proven that fish oils can be very good for you?
Thats omega 3 etc - but you can get that from things like flax seeds too.

Think about it - where does the animal you eat get its proteins from - a veggie diet usually.

I'm not a vegetarian although haven't eaten meat in a while but I think it should be a choice for sure what you eat, we were naturally predators so of course most of us have a taste for meat.
The main problem I see with vegetarianism is if every person in the world became vegetarian what would we do with the animals? Chickens, turkeys, sheep, cows have all been domesticated and rely on us, they have nowhere else to go. The only thing I disagree on is killing them by throat slashing it takes too long for them to die, quick and painless bolt in the brain I'm fine with. We live in a society were we do unnatural and what some would consider cruel things such as abortion and fox hunting so why is there such a gigantic problem with doing something that's been a natural behaviour among the entire animal kingdom for so long?
Um you should read this book called "FAST FOOD NATION" - those bolts to the head don't always work as 'cleanly as you'd think' - imagine these poor cows being whacked over the head - then bolted - but still alive when they are being hacked up!

we have very long intestines for a reason, to digest meat

if we were 'meant' to be vegetarians we would have very short intestines

ie. we have been designed to eat meat
Actually, long intensines are what herbivores - like cows - tend to have

Predators like cats tend to have shorter intestines!

Heres one argument..if you didn't eat meat, there'd be no reason for certain species to exist , or be bred in the first place, hence they would probably fall into extinction

Humans are built to eat meat, so I don't think it's morally wrong in that sense. However, if the animal has been killed inhumanely, then i'd question if i loved meat that much!

Humans were omnivores, but it could be argued that this is out of necessity the species has evolved so we will survive and in days when food was hard to come by it made sense that we ate a mixture of plant and animal.
However now we are in a position where we can choose our country is relatively wealthy there are an abundance of tasty and nutritious veggie products on the market and we can quite happily survive on a veggie diet. Why then choose meat when it causes animal suffering thats my reason for being a vegetarian. We treat animals shockingly badly and it simply isn't necessary anymore apart from giving giant corporations giant profits.

Morality = non-existent - a conclusory and empty label

Thus

saying that eating meat is morally wrong is also meaningless.

How about saying raping your daughter is morally wrong..would that be meaningless? Which labels are empty and which aren't?

What do you mean by morals are meaningless. do you mean morals are created by society?
Or morals are subjective?
I don't really understand the point of your post.

Yes it would be meaningless in an absolute sense.

It is a descriptive phrase the alludes the view society would take of it.

There is no absolute a priori truth that you shouldnt do it. Its society that has constructed a normative system in which that is seen as "bad"...

the grund norm though is not predicated on anythign substantive.
