Any updates? I've messed up both S5 and S6 and was thinking about this path.

Hey, this is the route I have went down. I done no science subjects at secondary school. However, went to university and obtained a degree in psychology. I had worked in a pharmacy for 5 years and knew it was the route I wanted to go down. So, I done a HNC in Applied Science at college, got 128 credits, and an A in the graded unit, allowing me to get into Strathclyde for MPharm

Was it a part-time job at a pharmacy? My plan is now to study radiotherapy and oncology and then study pharmacy after. A good 4 years wasted that way, but oh well. I'm not sure if I can forgive my teachers for all the negativity and nasty stuff they did to me in S5 and S6, but life is never easy, I suppose.

Yeah it was, I highly recommend getting a job in a pharmacy, it really is the best way to put your knowledge into practice. None of your learning is ever wasted! I have taken the long route too, there is plenty of years to be working. Good luck, I’m sure it will all work out!

Thanks for the reply! What if I retake my Highers at college this year and (hopefully) get the grades I need, and apply for RGU MPharm next year? Would this be a bad idea? RGU have kindly sent me an unconditional for Biomedical Science to make up for the fact that I didn't meet the conditions of my MPharm offer, but the limited career prospects of it worries me a bit. I wouldn't want to work in a lab all day tbh. Is this a good plan, or will the university look at the fact that it will be my third time taking Higher Maths as a negative? Thank you!

This isn’t a bad idea at all. You should definitely have a look at the other course options that college offer as a pathway to pharmacy, for example Applied Science. Another thing to consider, is that Strathclyde offer a foundation year before the MPharm year, which is essentially a biomedical science year. Personally, I only have a C in higher maths, from 6 years ago, so they must value experience in the sector as well.

Would an HND in Applied Biological Sciences be any good? I've just been sent an unconditional for it today. Strathclyde don't seem to accept HNDs, but RGU might.

Also, I've been warned by my career advisor not to go down the Higher route since universities will look at that negatively, and tbh, rightly so. S6 was my second year taking Higher Maths and I wasn't able to improve my grade from a C. Contacting unis and reminding them that topics were added back to the course last year following a break due to COVID, is not a valid excuse.

To be fair, I think I'd rather go to college. I need a break from the stress I had in S5 and S6. I had friends in S4. I was doing well and recovering from my hyper and unpredictable self. Then S5 came when none of my small group of friends were in any of my classes. And, in S6 I was told that I've shown signs of HFA. What took my teachers 5 years to realise? I really don't know, but I will speak to my teachers because I don't want anyone on the same boat as me - that the concerns raised about loneliness and demand for extra support must be listened too.

I'd rather do something slower paced. Sure, it may be harder to make my relatives abroad feel proud and it may be harder to have a decent level of rizz (lol), but I'm not sure I'm ready for uni, tbh.

Hi, out of curiosity, did the HNC get you into 1st or 2nd year at Strathclyde?

I would give the universities admissions team an email directly and ask them. They were super helpful with me and were the ones who pointed me in the direction of the HNC in the first instance. Personally, I really enjoy college, you still receive a lot of support, that you won’t get at university.

I've decided to go down the HND route for biological sciences. I think I'll enjoy college too tbh. It seems to be a more relaxed environment which is what I need after the two years that weren't fun. I may not have any rizz for two years now, but that stuff can wait haha!

Final question (and thank you so much for being so lovely): Is applying twice for a university for the same course within 2 years not a bad idea?

Hey, this got me into year 2 of the MPharm degree, as there are level 8 modules within the course (equivalent to advanced highers)
