Hi has anyone stayed in the Skyline accommodation?? Do you think it’s too early to book a room there yet if I’m starting next October? It seems like a popular choice so I don’t want it to be sold out. If you have stayed there would you recommend staying there? What are the pros and cons? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanksssssss x

Hi! I live in skyline right now so I can tell how I’ve found it so far! Most of my cons were from how the staff responded to covid though.

Pros:
It’s modern and the flats are basically new
There are a range of facilities - gym, games room, terrace, etc.
The flat comes with a tv in the kitchen.
The rooms are spacious with a ton of storage.
Nice view depending on what floor your on.
Shower pressure and heating is great

Cons:
The security is strict. This might be because of covid. Idk how they were like before.
All the common rooms have been closed to reduce the spread of COVID.
You can’t bring guests in because of COVID. (and it’s not easy to sneak people in)

Thanks so much for your answer!!! Yeah I figured they would be strict with COVID. But the pros definitely outweigh that anyway. Are you at BU or AUB? How do you find getting to the campus?

I wouldn’t rush into booking a private room tbh. I don’t think skyline will be an AUB hall next year so better to hang on and link up with some other AUB applicants who want to share a flat and book together.

It was an option for the current year (and last year) but the halls for each year change. Oxford Point and Skyline are both private halls that AUB bulk ordered a bunch of rooms but next year they might pick different halls. Especially now the campus halls are open and it sounds like the people running OP and skyline haven’t been great at managing the situation with covid this year.

I go to AUB. BU has two campuses. AUB is practically right next to the Talbot campus which only takes one bus to get there. The bus stop is less than 5 minutes away from skyline so id say it’s pretty easy to get there

Bournemouth private halls (not BU or AUB):
Skyline
Oxford Point
Kaplan
Belaton House can’t remember will edit in in a minute offers twodios(2 bed flats with a shared kitchen and bathroom) as well as normal en suite
Lulworth House
Winton Halls
Bath Rd/Artisan (all studios)
Mercury House (all studios)
St Peters (all studios)

It’s worth checking social media (twitter and Facebook) for all these private halls to see how they treated people during the pandemic wrt refunds if students were not able to stay in halls. AUB gave everyone (whether they were using their room or not) rent free for the final term of 2020 and automatically gave 7 weeks off the winter term 2021. BU did something similar (but gave the money as an extra grant where students stayed on their course).
