dentistry without chemistry a level

can I do a degree in dentistry with maths and biology for my a levels only? is there some good unis that accept just biology?

Look at gateway to Dentistry courses. Very few standard 5 year courses if at all will consider your application without Chemistry unfortunately:frown:(

It doesn’t matter which university you go to for dentistry. All courses are accredited by the GDC, and for some schools the dental school is mostly separate from the university and has its own institute e.g. Guys for KCL and Barts for QMUL.

For entry requirements for all dental schools, follow the link: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/university/courses/dentistry/dentistry-entry-requirements

yeah most of the unis require chemistry which im not taking lol. KCL and Plymouth are the only ones that doesn't require chemistry tho. i think that's risky. thank you for the link tho!

Gateway courses are 'widening participation' courses for those from low achieving schools, care leavers etc - and who are predicated grades too low for application to the standard 5 year course. They are not 'foundation' courses for those who didnt take Chemistry.

The BIG thing you have to think about here is this : if you dont enjoy Chem enough to take it at A level (I've read your other thread) then you wont enjoy doing a degree where knowledge of Chem is essential (thats why its a subject requirement). Think about it.

You might be better off looking at something like
Dental Hygiene & Therapy - https://courses.leeds.ac.uk/i125/dental-hygiene-and-dental-therapy-bsc
Audiology - https://www.southampton.ac.uk/courses/audiology-degree-bsc
Biomedical Science - https://www.southampton.ac.uk/courses/biomedical-sciences-degree-bsc
Optometry - https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2021/03571/bsc-optometry/

You can apply to Barts as well.
I don’t think you’d be eligible for foundation courses though but you can check - the link is on the link I sent.

To be fair, dentistry doesn’t really have much chemistry in it so I think OP would be fine on that aspect. Although your point is a good one if it was for any other degree or if it was the case that OP hadn’t done biology.

Hi there!

It's great to hear you have applied to universities and that one of them is Surrey.

If you have any questions about Surrey or uni in general please let me know. I am also a Psychology student studying here at Surrey in my second year, so if you have any questions about that I can answer answer them for you too!
