this is what i think the answer is
energy is needed to make cells- sperm in this case needs a lot of energy to do their job and to swim and fertilise the egg, also have a large amount of mitochondria in sperm. hence those with cystic fibrosis need more energy. the digestion of food has the product of ATP- energy

I think it’s all to do with the mucous membranes and the type of mucus being secreted. The mucus produced by people with cystic fibrosis is much thicker and stickier than non-sufferers. This can be in the digestive tracts that prevents nutrients from being absorbed, in the testes preventing sperm from being secreted and in the pancreas preventing the release of hormones. Hopefully this makes sense?
