Can sfe fund a 3rd degree

Hi,

I was wondering of anyone could answer my question. I already have a degree in Early Years (I chose this degree as I had no idea what I wanted to do), however now I am in my final year of Adult Nursing and I love it!

However I have been looking into the GEM (graduate entry to medicine) that I want to do a few years down the line, my question is will sfe be able to fund for this degree even partially?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi Aisha,

Here is the current information regarding Graduate Entry Medicine for the 20/21 academic year.

Tuition Fees
From the 2017/18 AY HEPs can charge tuition fees of up to £9,250. This change affects both new and continuing students. For more information on the increase to tuition fees, please see Article 4431.

Year 1 The student will have to self fund the first £3,465, however a tuition fee loan will be available for the remainder of up to £5,785.

Years 2-4 - The first £3,715 will be paid by the Department of Health and a tuition fee loan will be available for the remainder of up to £5,535.

Maintenance Funding
Year 1 The student can apply for a Full Means Tested Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants, They are not eligible for a Maintenance Grant.

Years 2-4 The student can apply for the Income Assessed NHS Bursary and Supplementary Grants from the NHS. They can only apply to SFE for a Reduced Rate Maintenance Loan.

This information could change in the upcoming 21/22 academic year.
Thanks, Isaac

Hi Isaac,

Thank you for all the information you have provided. Can I just confirm that sfe will be able to fund me for the third degree in GEM, regardless of me having 2 degrees already?

Again thank you!
Aisha

Good morning Aisha, sorry for the delay in responding. I can confirm your previous study won't affect your eligibility for funding for a GEM course.
Thanks, Isaac

Hi there,

As long as you are not registered in Nursing then yes, you will be eligible for finance. This is an exceptions course, meaning we don't take into account your previous study.

Thanks, Erin

Hi, sorry to jump in here, but I’m in a similar situation. I’ve had student finance for a degree and I am currently studying nursing using student finance - does this mean GEM will require me to pay fully or will I be eligible for student loans to pay for that too?Sorry that “not registered in nursing” comment confuses me

Hi there,

You should be eligible for finance if you study a graduate entry medicine course as it’s an exception to our previous study rules.

Being registered in nursing would only count if you’re studying a nursing degree; we wouldn’t fund the degree if you’re registered in this profession as it’s the one as the degree subject.
