Social Work Placements MMU & Salford

Hi,

I’m trying to decide which uni to attend in September and wondered what peoples experience was of social work placements at MMU and Salford, as this will help me with my decision.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had the same doubt but ended up firming MMU and rejecting Salford since Salford is a much smaller university in students and does not have as much influence as MMU, I also chose MMU because it is in a decent ranking and lastly, I saw that people who graduate from MMU tend to have more job offers than Salford.

Hi! I chose Salford in the end, just of a gut feeling. I suppose we’ll never know. I got a good feeling from mmu also... What is your instinct telling you?

Salford also! Apparently the course isnt doing offers anymore and mmu were forgiving when i didnt know the answer to certain questions so i feel like they might be understanding. Im so nervous! about going to any university, im a mum and a mature student so i hope to fit in somewhere😂

I'm studying postgraduate social work also. I've been offered unconditional places at both but think I may go for MMU - I thought it was a nice touch as to how they prepared you for interview with their introductory video about the course, placements, etc. I also like how they informed us that they have the flat/ lecture room in which they get actors to act out scenarios for you to practice in/ reflect over, etc.. they said they have strong connections across various fields in terms of placements. I can't really find anything regarding salford other than what is online on their course info page....I think I'm going to go with MMU but still feel torn etc as I was originally banking on going to salford prior to my interview at MMU!
Hi! I'm in my first year at Salford and I highly recommend the course! I don't know where my placement will be yet, but I feel very well prepared for wherever it may be. I'm also a mature student and a mum, they have been very accommodating. The course is fantastic, we have some amazing guest speakers in including those with lived experience, current social workers, etc. x

Good to know that!! I got unconditional offer from both MMU & Salford for MSc Digital marketing. I haven't been to UK before or any other country. I am a mature student. Which one ll be good for business studies as well as general uni life, people, staff, city etc. I've also got offer from Northumbria university Newcastle. Will have to choose between the 3.

Hey @inayahss ,

Let me know if you have any questions about the course - more than happy to help as much as possible! My best advice would be to visit both of us and see how you personally feel about us as universities, as you want to choose the place you feel suits you!

Our social work course is quite a practically-led programme - you'll have lots of placements and practical teaching as a part of the degree, working alongside qualified social workers and members of the public to provide support for our local communities as you learn. We often have guest speakers who come into the university to provide unique experiences and perspectives on different elements of social work, so you'll find your time in university (as well as your placements!) is quite varied. We're also dead proud of our Social Work team, as the course was ranked 2nd in the UK last year in the Guardian University Guide - they've put lots of care and attention into making it a really well rounded degree, which is definitely paying off!

If you haven't already I'd definitely recommend reading through both of our websites to see how you feel about each degree and see where they differ. Again, if you have any queries let me know - always happy to help!
