Changing couses mid y2

I'm currently halfway through my second year studying Spanish however with the conona lockdown and lack of support and my own issues regarding depression and lack of motivation I've realised that I need to study what I'm passionate about and that would be a Archaeology Bsc degree, my current uni doesn't offer this and its something I'd really want to do, Im hoping there's something I can do about this, any help would be really appreciated.

You'll need to email the universities you are interested in, although you may have to apply by UCAS. The issue is, you only get 4 years of Student Finance, and you've used up 1.5. There might be a little bit of leeway because of the pandemic, but this is something you'll have to discuss with SFE.

On the academic side, if you'd like to talk about archaeology, or ask me any questions, let me know. I graduated from the archaeology department at Liverpool and am now at Cambridge.

Thank you for replying and sorry for the delayed response. I've begun emailing universities however its quite difficult to get a hold of them.
The program at Liverpool looks really interesting and balanced, would you recommend it and is there any other thing that would be good to know about it that weren't clear on the site?

No worries. You will definitely need to consider the finance side as I'm sure universities will let you into Y1 as long as your grades are good enough (archaeology really isn't that competitive). I would say, it might be even quicker to apply via Clearing this year to a course, but this will involve going through UCAS again, so yeah, actually it might be better to wait on the universities - email admissions but also the departments you are interested in.

Liverpool's BSc is good - it doesn't differ *massively* from the BA apart from some lab and practical modules, e.g. the BA can still take osteology classes etc. You have to do 4 weeks (minimum) of fieldwork, although 2 of these can be in a museum - the first two *have* to be at Norton Priory, a site in Cheshire. And you can pick quite interesting optional modules. To be honest, I think Liverpool are fairly transparent, although modules can be halted due to COVID (but this isn't something they can control). It's a great city to study in and I liked the department a lot. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with. Of course I would recommend it, but I am a tad biased. The only friend I have who did the BSc has an archaeology job now.
