hi,

1. The continual movement of water means that the water passing through the worm's gills always has a high conc-n of O2; this is needed for O2 to diffuse into the animal, cos the rate of diffusion of a substance is directly proportional to the concentration gradient.

2. O2 in solution in the water means that the surface of the gills remains moist and this aids diffusion of O2 [similar to the diffusion of O2 from the air in amphibians [the skin of a frog/newt is slimy cos of this - yuck!! :mad: - French people are interesting lol].
