Why haven't university students got refunds?

In other sectors, you can get a refund if the product or service you buy isn't what you were sold. Why is it so hard for university students to get refunds?

If the government wants to treat the university sector as a business, then students really should get more protection if the service they are paying for isn't what they were sold.

Elaborate. What product/service are you talking about?

CV19 isnt the unis fault and they have their own fixed costs to pay.
The money you use to pay for it is only a quasi loan and not a real one, which means you are unlikely to pay it all off anyway.
They could change the loan agreement, so it was like an actual loan and you had to pay it back within x years and you paid it all back.
Take them to court and see how far you get. I am surprised there havent been any such actions..

This isn't an excuse in other sectors.

And it is the uni's fault for lying about what the university would be like this year. Many unis deliberately missold what uni was going to be like this year until students got to their accommodation. They can't blame that on Covid 19. It was their choice to lie.
In terms of first year students - they knew it'd be online learning going in.

If - but they don't.

Which universities lied? Thought it was pretty much accepted that term 1 was going to be online, it was just that term 2 was up in the air. Some universities (eg. Cambridge) had already said the whole year would be online.

If you say so. Evident you dont wish to discuss legally what a case may look like, so will leave you to it. Good luck with your venting .

And evidently, you don't really have a clue what students have had to put up with this year and the full story of the lies told by universities.

A refund for money you'll likely never pay anyway? No.
A refund despite still receiving an education? No.
A refund despite the Universities still having costs? No.

Grow up.

It's so strange how people are happy to see students get ripped off. We aren't getting what we are paying for. In most other sectors, this would be an obvious refund situation.

You're not being ripped off, genius. You haven't paid a penny yet, and you're still undergoing a degree.

Are you sure you're grown up enough to be attending a university?

Yes, I am. I'm probably a lot more grown-up than you considering you've decided to use insults for some stupid reason.

You're the one still in university, fella. Judging by your understanding of how the economy works, you're probably going to be staying there quite a while longer.

You haven't paid a single penny towards your degree. Stop complaining.

No, we aren't getting what we are paying for. That isn't right.

You haven't paid for anything? The strong likelihood is you'll never pay for it.
I mean, as long as you don't receive your degree in exchange I guess that would make sense.

I suspect most will choose to continue though.

No they didn’t. The universities deliberately lied to students telling them that they will have a blended learning approach one where some classes would be online and some would be in person and then when students paid for accommodation and moved to uni it was a complete different situation where 0 in person classes. 0 educational activities. No in person societies or clubs. So no they didn’t know it was all going to be online. The universities lied

Do you think they have the ability to look into a crystal ball and see the future? If you want to blame somebody, blame the ones we should be holding to account... our Government.

If you feel like you are getting ripped off, don't attend university. Nobody's forcing you to be there...
