Good enough IB grades for Cambridge law?

Sorry to start another "will I get in" thread but I really want to know, realistically, if I have good enough grades!

I´m an IB graduate applying for Cambridge law with 43 points, 7-7-6 HL.

Swedish A1 HL 7
English A2 HL 6
Psychology HL 7
World Cultures SL 7
Biology SL 7
Math Studies SL 6

From what I've read, my overall points should be enough, but do I need 777 in HL for a competitive subject like law?

I'm also a bit worried that my subjects may be seen as too "easy", especially the HL ones. How picky are they about subjects?

Does anyone know any Cambridge law offers for IB students?
Wouldn't this be better off in the Cambridge forum?

Your grades are perfectly fine. They never, ever ask for straight 7s at HL as that would probably be a little TOO unfair on IB applicants (that said, they do ask for 776 in specific subjects, which is still a ridiculous amount of pressure if you ask me).

As for whether or not your subjects are fine, I would say they theoretically should be - follow sugar_cane's link, though, if you want to ask for more information concerning those subjects.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say perfectly fine. Cambridge often do ask 7,7,7 at HLs.
It's true that your score is good enough gain an entry at top, competitive universities such as Oxbridge,
but since you are applying to one of the most oversubscribed course such as Economics, Medicine and Law, your application will be much stronger if you have 7s at all HLs.

yes your application with 43 points overall will be strong enough for consideration for law with 7-7-6, they will be less worried about your single 6 than your very strong overall score I would not be able to comment about the subject choices however

You could have gotten a 40 to 42 - so long your HLs were at least 776 it's fine. At that point they are going to look at your personal statement, references and the interview process MUCH more closely than your IB score right now. They couldn't care less if a candidate, for example, was predicted all 7s and a minimum of 2 extra points. My sister was predicted 38 points with 776 at HL and STILL got an interview which she succeeded at, so clearly it doesn't matter whether you got 44 with 777 or 43 with 776.

Thanks for the answers, I guess all I can do is wait and see. I do have a shot at least. Now all I have to do is shine at the interview

i wld say these would be good enough grades to get an interview, but u need 2 also consider the LNAT score. Whether u wld get an offer or not would depend on the interview. Lucky u ddnt get ppl thinkin u where braggin about ur marks and all, i posted a similar thread and that happened 2 me.

That's really inconsiderate. Of course people are anxious about their own grades, no matter how good they are.

Looks like I really have to focus on getting a good interview then. Which everyone must of course, no matter what grades they have.

It's a total lottery.
Guy in the year above me was predicted (and achieved) 45 points at IB.
He got it, and a 'perfect diploma' too (A in TOK and EE)
But alas he was rejected by cambridge for medicine.

I'm really scared now. I got predicted:
English A1 HL 6
Math HL 7
Chem HL 6
Bio HL 6
French A2 SL 6
History SL 7

Further Math SL 6 (certificate)

For Biology though, our teacher converts percentages into points, and I was one percent away from a 7, so I am completely confident that by December I could get him to repredict me a 7.

And I did my EE in History, but on the subject of laws and reforms. So that could be helpful.

Do you think there's a chance of me getting into Cambridge law?

I was pretty confident before, but now that my Bio teacher predicted a 6 and I read all these forums, I'm really unsure.:frown: :frown: :frown:

Like above poster said, It's a lottery. And to me it seems that you definitely have a chance to get in, especially if you get a 7 in biology. If you compare our subjects, for example, you seem to have a more difficult and challenging combination. They probably look at the difficulty of your subjects as well as your grades, which is why I am worried that mine are seen as too easy.

A friend of mine got the exact same score as you, and was admitted to study law at Cambridge. She went to Grenna Boarding School btw.

I think I will apply for law at Cambridge too (next cycle), unfortunately I got a 5 in one HL subject (which was a complete shock for both me and my demanding parents). Your grades are magnificent, and well enough for Cambridge. But it's not all about your grades. Who's writing your reference, a former teacher?

That's great, that your friend got in I mean! I really hope that I don't screw up my PS or LNAT, and I might actually have a shot!

And yes, a former teacher is writing the reference. (Which I am getting kind of worried about since I emailed him a couple of days ago and got a reply yesterday that he hasn't done it yet... I hoped to have sent the application by now.)

The deadline for applications to Oxbridge is on Wednesday right? You'll have to terrorise your teacher if he isn't done soon...:P A friend of mine, got 42 points, applies for Oxford this year, he was actually denied a reference from the school:eek:, our IBC "didn't have the time". Might I ask you whether you included your Swedish lower secondary school grades in the application? Do you know if Cambridge take those into account even though they aren't GSCEs? My hope is that those possibly could compensate the meltdown in the HL subject.

I'm confident that he will do it by Wednesday. It just bothers me that it's so last minute.

And no, I didn't include any other grades than my IB diploma (and 15 university credits from a Psychology course at Karlstad University.) My career advisor at school said they didn't take lower secondary school grades into account. But do you know if you are supposed to include your Swedish grades from the Pre-IB/PDP year?
I'm not sure if they'll accept you with math studies into law...

True, for the OP, if you want to make your application really stand out, you should choose Higher subjects at Mathematics, Science (Physics>Chemistry>Biology) and History since these are considered to be academic. Try to not take subjects that have much practical implications such as Business, ITGS or Art (???). You could find more information from the official website of U. Cambridge, it has many guides and advices for you.
Guys, this thread is like 2 and a half years old.
