Picking my 1st choice university

Should I choose Birmingham or Glasgow for Ancient History and Archaeology? I have had offers from both and truly can't choose. I did an online open day for the Birmingham course that I really liked the look of, but I much prefer the Glasgow area but I can't find much about the course apart from a basic presentation. I'm also interested in studying abroad but I'm not sure I'd get a better chance at one over another. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'd recommend contacting the admissions tutor and asking for more information, maybe even a Zoom chat if you can or feel comfortable doing so. They want students to come to their universities, so if they have time, they are often willing to help.

Personally, I would try to find balance between the course and where you'd like to live. I had an Ancient History offer at Birmingham, but personally I preferred course structures elsewhere (this was my experience and it should not influence you). So, with the final two, it came down to location - I picked the location I preferred over the other when it came to firming and insuring. I did Egyptology, so this is why I didn't take the Birmingham offer.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Hi @_indecisivelife_ The Archaeology and Ancient History Admissions Tutor is Professor Henry Chapman and I am sure he would be more than happy to discuss the programme with you.

At Birmingham, we encourage students to ask questions and to participate fully in seminars and other methods of teaching. In our Archaeology and Ancient History degree, you will have access to a range of learning resources including environmental and material culture teaching collections, the Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology Museum, and the Eton Myers Collection.

There are many opportunities to take part in field work and develop your practical archaeology experience. A Year Abroad is currently offered too.

Just contact me at [email protected] and I will put you in touch with Henry. - Heather
