NHS bursaries and UCAS Fee Code

Hi!
I'm applying for Orthoptics for 2009, and I've done pretty much all of my application [apart from finalising my personal statement], but I'm confused about that part in the ucas where you need to put a fee code?
Orthoptics is NHS funded like all the other allied health professions, but I dunno if I need to change this code on my application?
 Thanks

[oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm kinda new]

Hi i was just wondering if u were going to apply for other courses since there are any two unis that do orthoptics?

It's 05 - department of health funded

I sent an email to Sheffield uni orthoptics department and this is what they said:

"The orthoptic degree is funded by the Department of Health (DoH) and thus you donot have any tuition fees. Once you have applied for the orthoptic degree andachieved a conditional offer the DoH will send you an application form for thefunding of the degree"

so i put 02 as the code as i am applying for other courses

Hi, sorry I've took forever to reply, i searched orthoptics seeing as there is a great lack of orthoptists on here and stumbled upon my own thread =]
Im applying for optometry at manchester, just incase i happen to get an A in Bio, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen. xD I recieved a letter this morning from leeds about medical engineering, sounded interesting, no idea what it involves though. I'm starting to wonder if I should apply for something else, but I know if i did end up doing another degree, i probably wouldn't enjoy it and rather do resits etc to get onto orthoptics.

go on all forums and then find the forum you want to post in, then click on that, then click on the orange button and press new thread.
I know same, the entry requirements for optometry are too high to do more than one applcation for, but if i apply somewhere else i dont really have to want to change my ps, cause it was like 50 characters left =P
so i dont know really.
Where do you want to go more? Liverpool or sheffield? I wanna go liverpool cause i live nearby etc. yay, orthoptics people, so chuft =P

I not sure yet i live near Liverpool and av been to the open day seems a nice place. I was gonna apply for optom but grades too high, wish there were more unis that did orthoptics.

I know, I'm exactly the same, I've not really got much else to apply for really, 'cause nothing is relevant to it. I've emailed unis asking if it's possible to transfer after one year of biomedical sciences or something but they said no for orthoptics and optometry really. So, I'm applying for orthoptics at sheffield and liverpool, applying for optometry for manchester [just for the hell of it really, incase i suddenly become dead clever xD]. Also, colleges that are ike, assosiated with liverpool uni do foundation courses, the courses are supposed to be for people who don't have a typical a level background though, but as long as you pass the year you automatically get onto the degree at liverpool. The only thing is it isnt specialised for orthoptics I don't think, I think it's one for radiography and physio and that sort of thing, then a seperate one for dentistry/medicine. I know the do the allied health professions ones at birkenhead college, and st john rigby college? [I think]. I'll link you, lols, sorry for the rant.
here you go, this a booklet thing about it:

I'm not sure if I'd even get on if I applied, just cause I'm doing A levels, and I don't know how you apply either, if it's through UCAS or not. Something I'm going to look at now =P
anyways, pm me if you need anymore info, theres a year 0 for medicine at my college so i kinda know a tiny bit about it lols

im applying for biology as well as orthoptics, apparently orthoptics is up 42 weeks a year which means a shorter holiday than most other courses

yeah it's cause you do placements throughout your three years supposed to a pre reg year like optometry.
I don't see much point in studying bio when I want to do orthoptics, and chances are, if I don't get the grades for orthoptics I won't get them for bio. Im okay to a degree anyway, I can always do the Dispensing Optician course at work, then Contact lens DO course thing, then that optom thing, but thats 5 years, when I don't wanna be an optom xD
Apparently last year there where places left in clearing for orthoptics at least at liverpool anyway. So thats whats keeping me from stressing xD

Anyone know what the grades are for biomedical science or biological science and what unis do it thanks

Biological Science (or Biology at some unis) is available at pretty much every uni, lowest UCAS points required that i could find for that are at Kingston uni, (around 180) and its likely that oxbrdige would look for 400+ so it varies. Depends what you want to get out of the course, there's an optional year abroad at some unis.

Think biolmedical science is available at a large number of unis too and the grades are similar to biology

does anyone know anything about Portsmouth uni for biomedical science or forensic biology
Reply 16
for forensic biology you need between 260 - 280 points.
it works out to be about 3 C's

260-280 is BBC or BCC, CCC would be only 240?

I know your tuition fees are paid for by the NHS if your doing orthoptics and are a home student, although im not sure whether theyre paid for if you're an EU student.

And no, there is no pre reg year for orthoptics after graduating.
