I was stopped by them in London about a year ago, they gave me their card and took a photo and then gave me a ring a couple of weeks later. You don't have to pay anything, right? Which means they can't really rip you off. Anyway they sounded pretty kocher to me but I didn't really follow it up. Unless they're asking for money off you I'd say go for it.
SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!

dont do it!

run away now whilst you still have money

They will probably give you a free quick photoshoot, maybe two or three free prints of your photos and yuo will have to buy the rest of them
Does anyone know the average price you would have to pay for the photoshoot?

they said to me:
FREE
- photoshoot, make-over, hair stylist
- upload pics on the website

HAVE TO PAY
- for copyright (each pic is about £70 if i buy three(this is how many they need) it will be cheaper then £70 per pic)

no no no no no. if you have to pay, its a scam. if you are actually attractive and want to build a portfolio on your own, a lot of up and coming photographers are willing to trade for prints...meaning you model for them, you get free copies of the prints. websites like onemodelplace.com are a good place to look (i know its a us site, but perhaps they are also international or have a uk counterpart). do notpay an agency for photos ever. if the agency spots you and wants you then they stand to benefit from you working and that's how they make money. a place that tries to make money the way they are is completely ilegit. don't do it.
hey guys - - thought to update you (if any1 is interested hehe )

i had my pictures done and now I sent them to the agent (they are still communicating with me). I think it is a good sign

If they ask you to pay, they are not genuine at all.

If they ask you to pay, they are not genuine at all.

yap, know this. If they will be asking for any more money - FORGET IT lol

but so far the only thing they are asking for are the photos

But you shouldn't have to pay for copyrighting, I'm concerned about their credibilty because they're not on the Alba list of approved modelling agencies :s-smilie:.

http://www.albamodelinformation.com/alist.php here's the website for you to check out, I hope you aren't getting scammed or anything! Also check out the AMA, association of model agencies

:frown: as everyone has said, you shouldn't be paying for these things if it is genuine. a friend of mine was approached and did some stuff with Boss Model Management (genuine well nown agency) and she did some test shots and similar with them, she didn't pay a penny for anything.

hi Guys,

Im so confused and really need some more advice, i was scouted by zebra management and now have been selected to be their member but they have asked me to attend a photoshoot and purchase about 5 to 9 photos and i was told to bring money with me as i will have to pay for them...

I really don't know whether to trust them or not....
has anyone been through this process

help pleaseee

Never trust an agency that says you need to pay for a portfolio.

they're a pile of crap.

I walk through Oxford Circus on a daily basis and I get 'scouted' by them once or twice a month. they tried to persuade me to come in for a free shoot... then they tell you it costs £50 to keep each photo.

don't bother, find a proper agency.

AVOID THEM!

here is a list of good agencies in UK (most belong to AMA and/or large international ones):

http://www.wannabestar.co.uk/UK-model-agency-contacts.php

some more details about each agency:
http://www.wannabestar.co.uk/top-UK-model-agencies.php

although, admittedly, those agencies go for the top talent only...

also, there are a few other articles about modelling on that site - what to do, what not do do, etc. They also arrange competitions for free photoshoots (and these really are free, including the pictures on the CD) - look under competitions

hope this helps!

once you have something together, you might check out sites like modelmayhem, purestorm, starnow, etc - but those are for the professional crowd mostly...

Definitely ignore them.
