I am actually wondering, does anyone know if there is a breath of fire (4) anime series since in the game opening there is what looks like scenes from an anime series.
I don't believe so... i haven't played the game for a long time, so i'm not sure what you mean by it, but i haven't heard anything about it if there was.

Although not strictly speaking anime, has anyone played any good anime style games.

I have several favourites in terms of RPGs, including star ocean: til the end of time, breath of fire 4, dot hack and unlimited saga, all very great and immersive.
    .hack! Excellent game! VERY addictive

Hi, I stumbled on the anime thread by accident and was just wondering exactly what anime is. Are the simpsons or the moomins classed as anime?

Anime is generally regarded as Japanese animation most of which aren't in the western mainstream. Films like "Spirited away" and "Howls Castle" would be. Most of them come off manga comic books which are very popular in Japan.

Out of interest, Pokemon....anime? or mainstream?

As has been pointed out, anime is the style of animation used predominantly in Japan and includes large eyes (which help to convey a wider range of emotion more easily) and somewhat exaggerated reactions (such as shock, anger ect.). Generally the anime series that get the most exposure in the UK are those aimed at children (pokemon, digimon, yugioh, sonic X) and are as such not really reprisentative anime.
To understand why anime is as big as it is (in Japan and to an extent outside of it as well), you have to understand the extent that anime is used. I have seen anime series for every conceivable genre (horror, comedy, action, adventure, thriller, romatic comedy, period drama ect.) for all ages, from children (with series such as animal Yochinko, daddy long legs as well as the anime series mentioned above) to older teenagers (with series such as Naruto, Bleach, ROD TV ect.) and adult (with great series such as Elfen Lied and films such as deep blue which both are brilliant pieces of work that use nudity without it being pornographic).

What does everyone think about the new anime, Steam Boy, I'm not really that bothered about it, I know that my friend is more concerned. I thought it looked a bit rubbish to be honest. But then, maybe that was because my friend described it as aa story of a Manchurian boy
