Congrats on your offer!! I applied during the winter break and am still waiting for a response. Can I ask your background (dates you applied, current academic achievement etc?)

Thank you! I hope you get a response soon

I applied on 16/11 and I'm currently in the third year of my Biomedical Science degree. The main things I wrote about in my personal statement were volunteering with Parkinson's UK, a book I read called 'The Brain That Changes Itself' about neuroplasticity which fascinated me, being awarded a studentship to undertake laboratory research at the Bart's Cancer Institute (which was unfortunately cancelled because of covid), and my dissertation that I'm currently writing which is on computational neuroscience.

I'm interested in hearing about your background too

Wow that's amazing!

I'm a third-year Psychology student averaging a 1st. My work experience is more in the psychological field as I currently work part-time supporting children with Autism, and am a listening volunteer for the nightline association, but I have worked as a research assistant on a cognitive neuroscience study during my second year of university. I've also taken an online course on the Principles of Biochemistry which hopefully shows I'm capable to succeed in studying a biology-based subject though! Little worried but I'm trying to stay optimistic

Thank you, your background is also amazing!

I’ve spoken to two people who are currently doing the course and they both come from a Psychology background, they both said that people doing the course come from a range of backgrounds and that the compulsory modules on the basics of neuroscience in the first term get everyone on the same level, so don’t worry!

That's really reassuring to hear thank you  Hopefully we can be coursemates next year!

Hi! Just wanted to ask about the personal statement - we can submit a separate document that's up to 2 pages right? Not necessarily just the 3000 character text box?

Hi! Thank you  No I didn't have an interview, and yes you can submit a separate document of your personal statement but I wrote mine in the 3000 character text box just to make sure I don't go over the limit. My first personal statement draft was like 5000 characters so I had to shorten it so that it fits.

If you have any other questions, I'm happy to help

Aahh I see, so even if you submit a separate document it has to be 3000 characters?

Thank you! I also wanted to ask how long it took until you heard back from them?

I think so, but just to be sure I recommend calling the prospective student enquiries number which you can find here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate/contact-us. I called a few times when I had questions about the application and found the administration staff really helpful.

I applied on 16/11 and got my offer on 11/01, so approximately two months

No, if you submit an additional document, your statement can be max 2 pages long.

Hello! Does the employment section in the application refer to internships or like actual jobs?
