I just want to know if I was right in this situation and any advice, I obviously know that if I want to keep the peace I should have stayed in and followed what they said but I’m not being manipulated and controlled I will put my own well being before that.

Sorry you're going through this OP. It does sound like there's a bit of emotional abuse going on here (the childish 'you never do anything for me' comments regarding the shopping raises some red flags). All I can say is that I hope things get better for you!
