Should we be forced to have cameras on for online school?

couldn't being recognised happen if said child visits the shop for example or walks down the road, or being collected from school?

should said child be locked indoors 24/7 too?

well i don’t know it’s not my opinion... I was just telling you a scenario as to why someone may have it off for safeguarding reasons
can you see other students? lol you dont know who is looking at who

If the safeguarding risk was that grave, it would be highly unlikely that the child would be placed in an area that their parents had contacts in and even more unlikely that they would be placed in a school that family members attend.

In cases like that of course there could be individual exemptions granted. Teachers aren't tyrants.

I was just stating the scenario my mother told me when I also asked her (she’s a a teacher). I think it got it a little wrong as I remember it’s if the child on camera has a vulnerable person living with them eg abuse victim, in foster care and someone else’s family member sees them in the background- then they could be compromised

I don't turn my camera on for online lessons even though we're "supposed to / meant to" as I don't want people to see into my bedroom or my working study space and I think it's super uncomfortable. For other people I imagine it can be dangerous and a serious safeguarding issue and so it should never be complusory. Personally I have black duct tape over my computer camera anyway incase of spies or hackers.

Laughed hard at this 🤣 but yes I agree I refuse to have my camera on in online lessons.

Yes. They want to make sure that its actually you, and also that you are doing your work and not roaming around your house instead of paying attention.

No ones business. If the work is there and submitted then suck it. I think during exams it should be a live zoom meeting and only compulsory then.

how exactly is turning a camera on for a school lesson dangerous or a safeguarding issue?

Invasion of privacy
Pedophilia concerns
And total unnecessary

Duh.

I mean everyone turns up and most people have microphones on and I don't have a cam or a mic but I still do my work and interact in lessons.
So why should we all be forced to do so?

Yes, shows you are paying attention and that its actually you, why does it make you uncomfortable? you have to show your face when you go to class what's the difference?

Uh people can see your home?
Guys, people seeing your home is not a safeguarding issue. People seeing a vulnerable person in your home could be a safeguarding issue.

If the kid is alright letting the class see them at school I don't really see what the big deal is turning on their camera at home for lessons (provided they are in school uniform and not something inappropriate)

and i don't really see how pedophiles can be watching with the cameras on as you'd see him there.

I think it's necessary so the children take the lessons more seriously, and also to make sure all the children are actually truly there. if you're just letting someone participate with a blank screen and chat by typing then ANYONE could be doing that.

My siblings refuse to. They put tape on theirs lol And my mum omds!!!! She was at a work meeting and everyone is there but her face in the gallery view was a blacked out space lol her boss was like "[mums name] wow you look different today! I love the hat!" (sarcasm) my mum laughed sarcastically right. Then he said are you there. Can we see your face.

She said. No you cannot

😆😆😆😆😆

Then there's me. If they wanna spy on me thru webcam or force me to submit to a video call then they can catch me masturbating...they can catch the mess and bin liners around the house and my shoes everywhere and this empty bag of maccas 👍

so?

I presume the child is coming to the lesson appropriately dressed. I don't really see how it's "dangerous" etc

My face could be recorded (as others have said), I want to be able to go to the loo without it being awkward (no camera or being in class at school does not make it awkward). I hate socialising in real life (or via video) and video calling people.

Yeah there's no way I'll turn my camera on plus I'm not allowed to anyway.

You can put up a background ...

Not really you could easily say: "Sarah turn your mic on and answer question X", "Torin are you there? Hello? "How do you say my name is Mathew and I like playing football" in French? Type in chat or unmute." No need to have that camera on and check regularly if they are submitting their work.

Where are you sitting?? On the street with your house number on show? Some people :colonhash:. Just sit in front of a blank wall for gods sake ahaha

Not if you use a background ...

Can still be a safeguarding issue and frankly some people want privacy (especially if the student has to share a learning space with other people).

I sit in the living room but still wouldn't show my face (will happily engage in chat, get dressed etc but will never show my face).

Meh I still wouldn't show my face plus I'm not allowed anyway so even if I wanted to turn my camera on I can't.

Teachers are humans who can be pedophiles. They can record and save the videos for whatever they want later. Did you...not know that?? Especially since most ppl will never meet their teachers in person, until further notice. We don't know them.

Again who cares about their behaviour and how seriously they take it? Who cares. As long as the work is there. I guess teachers need their cameras on all day too. When theyre grading papers too not in class. Let's hear what they say about that 👍
Let's add:

trying to control people in their homes like fascism

as another reason for no cameras.

And lay off the caps.
