Confusion for A Level History - Industrialisation and the People

I'm currently self-teaching myself this topic and am really confused about what exactly 'virtual representation' means (in terms of the unreformed parliamentary system, around the 1780s).
After reading the information, i think it means that MPs who owned property or had a particular interest in areas unrepresented in parliament were said to 'represent' these areas e.g. a Scotsman representing an English borough
