Are there any biology/biological science degrees which accept students with biology as their only hard science A level? If it’s any help my other A levels are psychology and geography and I’m wondering if there’s any biology degree courses which will accept me with those A levels...

Hey!
I’ve just done some research and there are actually quite a few universities that I’ve found that seem to not mind no Chemistry as a 2nd A level. In fact, some of the universities I found consider Geography and Psychology as science subjects! I wasn’t sure where you want to go to study biology or biological sciences so I found about 2 universities in Scotland (Glasgow and Herriot-Watt), 2 universities in Northern Ireland (Ulster and Queen’s University Belfast), 2 universities in England but outside London (Durham and Bath), 2 universities in London (Middlesex and Westminster) and 2 universities in Wales (Cardiff and South Wales). Although for one one them I think I found Human Biology at Glasgow University (not sure if you would like to study that). These are just some universities that I tried to find really quickly, but if you don’t like the universities above then maybe other universities might have interesting courses as well. Here is what I found:

Hi floppyfish, quite a few universities will only require A level Biology as the science subject if applying for courses such as Applied Biosciences and Biology. It might be useful to have a look at the UCAS search tool and see which universities require an additional A level in a science. Our Biology degree only requires A level Biology plus another two A levels - I hope that helps. Thanks Rebecca

I'm studying at biology at the University of Sheffield having only done biology as a science A level (my others were German and History). At the time of me applying, the entry requirements were for two "hard" sciences. However, after emailing the admissions tutor for my course, owing to my predicted grades, the department amended my offer.
If you are really interested in studying at a particular university, I would recommend sending an email to check if there is any leeway on the entry requirements. There's no harm in asking!
