I'm planning on getting an apprenticeship in electrical engineering a little over a year, and although it's a while away I thought I'd look at what some of the options are in my area. I've looked at quite a few sites and none really seem to have a lot of options to do with electrical engineering for 16 year olds. The only opportunities I could find were far from my home and not easily reachable by bus or train. I'm not too worried about this as it will be a while before I start applying and I'm sure something will come up soon, but it made me curious, what should I do it I can't find a suitable apprenticeship by then? I'm aware I can stay in school until 18 but I really don't want to do that and would much rather have an apprenticeship. Has anyone been in a situation like this? What did you do?

It depends if you want to be an electrical engineer, or an electrical technician.

Electrical engineers typically work at level 6 and above. (BEng, MEng, or PhD) and work in more research and development focused areas.
An electrical technician works from anywhere between level 2 and 5. (Diploma, HNC, HND, or FdEng) and mostly works on things like equipment maintenance, consulting, and support.

If you want to be a technician, you could aim to go to college full time instead.
If you want to be an engineer, you can either go to college or do A levels, and then go to university full time or as a degree apprentice.
