No, but we have to read it for our synoptic paper (English lit). I cannot get into it at all.

Really? I think its a good book. It does get better after the first couple of chapters. Im just finding it hard to analyse and compare with cuckoos nest.

Its my favourite text I'm studying for synoptic

Cool.
I see theres a film to it. Do you know if there were only limited numbers as they are rather expensive to buy?
I did it for my A2 coursework, though I didn't have to compare it to anything... :s-smilie:

Be careful with the film if you haven't finished reading the book first. As with all film adaptations, it's slightly different

Thanks. I think its a great book. Im comparing it with one flew over the cuckoos nest by Ken Kesey.

Would you be able to tell me why you think Regeneration is split into parts?
We had a discussion that it could be years of the war etc. But i dont agree as Sassoon wouldnt have gone back.

Yes I am for AS coursework - the book I'm studying for the exam is The Great Gatsby!

lol, my cousin played a nurse in that film, to earn a bit of money while at uni! It's a good movie, I read the book a while ago- but I tihnk the film's easier to follow, try and get hold of it if you can!

I really enjoyed studying it as well. If only I had time to read the other two in the trilogy!

I haven't read it for a while but I think it's floating around somewhere on my desk. I'll try and find it and see if I can think of a reason and if I come up with anything sensible to say, I'll get back to you!

Oh thanks so much! I still cant think of much a reason. Its rattling these brains of mine.

Im hoping once i get the coursework out the way i can read the other two books.

I'm doing it for A2 coursework as well. I found it really good, the second and third books get better.

I've read them both so I can refer forward to them if needs be as well as reading some other World War One novels by other authors. Its unlikely I'll end up using any but its an excuse to get my parents to buy books!

My coursework question is focussed around Prior, I think its in relation to quote from Barker saying that he 'makes the book' and without him it'd be dull. There's plenty to write about there!

A friend of mine is doing it, he cant really get into it either...

Im finding the coursework difficult too though, really dont have a clue what im supposed to be doing --> The books im studying are Catch 22 and An Ice Cream War...

I haven't found it yet! :s-smilie: I'll keep looking though!

About the film. It is a good film and you def should watch it. Just be aware there's some differences. Like Wilfred Owen features much more in the film than he does in the book. Plus the characterisation of Sassoon was quite different. My class was lucky enough to hear the director talk about it a bit and ask him questions. I got the distinct impression that he didn't like Sassoon and had changed the character a bit. I was more sympathetic with Sassoon when I was reading the book, whereas I remember thinking that the film portrayed him as a bit of a git

I did this last year for AS level, despite the fact I failed miserably in the exam ended up with a C the shame! (I blame our English teacher for not helping us at all ) but anywho I really loved it
It gives such a good insight into how WWI affected soldiers. One day i'll read the other two novels, one day when the stress of university applications isn't making me quite so crazy.

I'm studying it for A2 and we've got to compare it with another novel. I've chosen Catch 22, which I think might have been a bad move.... But it seems to be going well. I really like Regeneration, it's better once you get into it.
my RE teacher is called Pat Barker.

I was sat there going, "why would someone make a thread about her?"

Hi dumbdunc Thats one nobody in my class as touched 'Prior'. That could be a really interesting topic.
I suppose you could refer to the other two in the essay too?

Yeah i still cant find the reason why its sectioned. Another thing that came up today was that it could be the devlopment of treatment. But myself am wondering whether i could show evidence that it could be the development of relationships/ power and influence Rivers has and the way it changes and develops. I could therefore fit it in with my title
