Mature Student Accommodation

Hello everyone!

I am 23 and will be going into my second year this September. Bit stressed about what I am going to do about accommodation. I am not sure whether to rent a room in a house with other students, rent a studio or 1 bed, or rent a room in a private student building like crown place.

I don't really want to rent with people younger than 22 but I don't know any other mature students and the websites I have looked at like roomshare don't have the option. Any suggestions?

Some accommodations will let you choose ‘mature student’ and will place you in a flat of mature students (although be aware that means age 21 and up)

Hi! @Louise78934

I would recommend staying with other students in a house share. There might be students looking to do a masters and searching for places to live. This would be cheaper for you rather than living in halls or private halls. I would maybe post on a Facebook page and ask if anyone is looking for someone to join them, or maybe if you are part of a society.
Personally, I don't think there's a massive age gap between you and people in your year, but I do understand your concern. What is it that concerns you? If its the noise or something similar, then you can always ask and mention this when you are looking. The students looking should completely understand why you would be asking this.
There are other house shares in the city that are not specified for students. If you were to share with these people they would most likely be your age if not a bit older. To do this I would get in contact with a local estate agent and ask.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Chloe!

I agree, it would be better to rent a room in a house share with other students. I don't want to live with 18-21 year olds as I am not really into partying/drinking and would prefer a quieter and cleaner house share. I am living in halls now and am finding it pretty miserable.
I already did a post asking but didn't really get any responses from mature students. I feel like there aren't that many or something. Also I don't want to seem like I am being picky or rude. Maybe I will do another post on a different Facebook page.

Do you mean apartment buildings or studio flats in houses?
Usually unis seem to prioritise halls studio flats for mature students or those with families (who are usually mature students anyway). It might not be a bad idea, if you can afford it, to go for this option in first year. Then by the end of the year you will probably have had the chance to get to know some people to move in with that have a similar temperament to you to figure out a longer term shared renting situation

Hi there. I am looking for a mature student. I have a self contained room available in galway city.
