I'm not certain he knows what an island is? I mean technically Australia is a continent but nevertheless. Oh what a class of politician the UK has inflicted upon it. Perhaps Britain did something bad in a previous life and this is the national equivelant of being reborn as a dung beetle?

Waiting for all the rest of the geographical excuses...

Well hong kong, can't close like they did.. they are a peninsula after all..
New zealand or japan, volcanic archipelago, can't copy them..
Singapore? Island City state.
Brunei? they've done pretty well.. yeah but they're a partial enclave.

Looking forward to 5 years of political commentators and members of the public making snide jabs at Shapp's blunder in the same way they've been doing it for Abbott's. Part of me doesn't think that'll happen, though.
