Hello everyone,

My name is Ella and I am the Global Summer School Assistant and an Alumni of Imperial College London.

I am here to support you in your application to our Global Summer School at Imperial College London and answer any questions you may have about this year’s online programme.

Our two-week programme offers 16–17-year-old students across the globe the chance to learn from academic experts at our world leading university.

We are running our programme exclusively online in 2021, with three unique streams (Engineering, Physics, Medicine and Life Sciences), masterclasses and our entrepreneurial STEM challenge.

Information about our applications process, fees and entry requirements can be found on our website.

Post your questions here and I'll be back on Wednesday 10 February 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (GMT) to talk to you live and answer as many of your questions as possible.

Please understand that I will not be able to comment on individual cases and grades.

I can’t wait to help you start your higher education journey with Imperial!

EDIT: I enjoyed answering your questions. If you would like to ask the Imperial Global Summer School team any more questions contact us via email or telephone.

Thank you for hosting this thread.

I had a few questions:
How wil we do practical experiments online?
Does my school apply for me or do I do this myself?
All my grades are pretty good by my maths isn't great, will that affect my chances?

What is actually provided by Imperial? Your charging under 2000 for an online course. Is it worth it?

Thank you for this thread,
I would like to ask for some more information regarding the masterclasses. How many masterclasses will there be in this session, and what is the duration of the classes?

Hello!

Thanks for your question!

There will be around 55 hours of scheduled activities during the Summer School, including lectures, seminars, and social events. These activities will take place during UK working hours (usually 9am – 5pm BST). Some elements of the timetable will be recorded for you to watch in your own time, if you’d like, and other interactive elements will require you to participate in real time for the best experience!

If you have any other questions, post them here before 5pm

Hello

Thanks for your questions!

We are preparing practical activities that you can take part in from home, as well as experiments which make use of online software. We are hoping to make all activities as interactive and engaging as possible!

You can apply yourself! Once you submit your application form, you will need a guardian and a teacher to provide a reference. Have a look here for details of how to apply: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/be-inspired/global-summer-school/applying/

One of the academic requirements for Global Summer School is a minimum of a grade 7 in maths at GCSE level. Check out this page for international equivalents: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/be-inspir...ualifications/

Feel free to post more questions if you have any!

Hello

Thank you for your question

The two-week Global Summer School programme will include live lectures and interactive seminars in your chosen learning stream (Engineering, Medicine & Life Sciences or Physics) run by Imperial academics and professors. In addition, Imperial’s Student Recruitment team will hold Masterclasses on applying to UK universities, writing a personal statement and interview skills.

There will also be a STEM challenge, run in partnership with Imperial’s Enterprise Lab. During the STEM challenge, you will work in a team alongside students from other learning streams to solve a real-world challenge. We will also hold social events, during which you can socialise with other Global Summer School students.

We hope the Global Summer School will be an amazing opportunity to interact with students from around the globe, develop invaluable skills and subject knowledge, and give you an insight into life as an Imperial student!

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi there, thanks for your question!

The Masterclasses are run by Imperial’s Student Recruitment team, and cover a range of important topics such as:
- How to apply to UK universities
- How to write a personal statement
- Interview skills

The Masterclasses last an hour and will be a great opportunity to learn about and develop skills that will be really useful when you come to apply to universities. You will be able to ask questions to the Student Recruitment team directly, who will be happy to answer anything that you’ve wondered about what universities look for in applicants!

If there are any other questions you'd like me to answer, please post them here before 5pm

Hi!

Thanks for your question

Your teacher will be asked to verify the information provided by you on your application form as well as writing a short reference statement to support your application.

In their reference statement, your teacher may want to include some information about how you would benefit from the Summer School, how you stand out at school, and details of your relevant achievements and interests.

Your teacher should also provide details about your English language ability, indicating whether English is your native language, you are taught in English at school, or you have an English language qualification.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please post them here

Hello

Thanks for your questions! It’s great to hear that you are interested in applying.

In short, payment is the last stage in the application process after which you will have a confirmed place on the course. Below I’ve listed out the stages leading up to confirmation of your place, and an idea of timescales:
- You submit your application
- Your guardians and teachers submit their references
- Once we have received both references, we assess your application within 10 working days and hopefully give you a conditional offer
- You upload your supporting documents to the application portal within 5 days of receiving your conditional offer
- We check your documents and send you an unconditional offer within 5 working days
- You then have up to 14 days to make the payment, after which you will have a confirmed place on the programme

Let me know if you have any other questions about Global Summer School
