Freeganism or dumpster diving

Anybody else dumpster dive? For people who don't know this is when you take food from supermarket bins or things from skips.

It's not as gross as it sound because most things are still in date and in packaging and are just going to go to landfill when they're perfectly good to eat. It's free food, and it would just go to waste otherwise. Full on freegans get most of their food this way.

I also get a lot of things from skips, my computer desk was in one!

Its a great way to recycle - you get whatever you need and stop something else from being wasted!

Have you seen Ready Steady Skip? Its ready stead cook but all the food, all the utensils, all the equipment was skipped and even the room was squatted! Its some of the people i know through the social centre and its hilarious

Hygeine? They said it was all in the packaging and still in date so yes it is still disgusting.

Clearly you've never seen a skip. They're filthy, I wouldn't want my food any where near one.
By all means, go ahead, while I eat out of date food in my own house.

"Freeganism". Why do people neologize these horrible words? :frown:

if its in date and in the wrapper why would the supermarkets throw it away. the one i work at most certainly wouldn't. the only the reason we throw food away is if the packaging is damaged as anything could have got to the food or if its out of date. Also i wouldn't want to eat anything thats been near the skip at work as it is discusting.

display until dates...

I used to work in Tesco and things were thrown out because they passed their display date, yet weren't past their BBE. Smaller supermarkets are worse culprits of this.
i LOVE eating out of date food from a bin..

Gosh, haven't we come far in the 21st century. I also enjoy getting medical care from the nice men in the street with needles, and living in places that arent mine for free!!

Repeat after me- I am alive.

Surley it is better to clear the stock out quickly then just replace it? What is wrong with this?

there sold to staff. might not be the case everywhere though. there was a family who did it on wife swap ages ago but before I saw that i'd never heard of it. Is it very common?
