Maladaptive daydreaming

I’ve dealt with maladaptive daydreaming for most of my life to cope with bullying and later mental and physical illness. I was hoping I could help someone with this if they’re new to it/just realised they have it.

Thanks for asking! The best way I cope with it is identifying when it’s happening so I can try and control it. It doesn’t work all of the time, but it helps me organise it so now I mostly daydream whenever I’m listening to a stimulus (most of mine are auditory stimuli). My main goal is to make sure I don’t do it in an environment where I need to focus, so when I feel like I’m about to daydream I’ll fidget with things to stay in focus (I bought a fidget cube for this)

I mentioned it when I was getting diagnosed for PTSD. Unfortunately it’s not properly recognised as a mental illness, but I still got the help I needed in therapy alongside treatment for my other mental illnesses.
