Depression and mental health

I have been feeling depressed for the last few days. My mum has noticed a change in me but thinks I’m just being grumpy and sad. I don’t feel like I can tell her what’s going on but it’s much more than she thinks. I’m not 100% sure it’s depression as I haven’t seen a doctor, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it is. I started hurting myself yesterday and again today but I don’t know what to do and it’s really hard to put on a smile for my family. Her calling me sad and grumpy is just making it worse to be honest.

I know it must be so so hard right now, especially with lockdown taking a toll on everyone's mental health. try and go on walks, they really help clear your head and I know this sounds like the last thing you want to hear, but try talking to a friend or your mum or someone you can confide in. I know things seem bad right now but they will get better

Thankyou for taking the time to reply. It is really hard I just don’t want to seem like I’m over reacting to people around me. My sister went through the same thing years ago and my parents hid it from me so I don’t know how they will react to it if I tell them

Please please please try not to hurt yourself. Life is really hard right now and positive mental health can be particularly hard to maintain right now. I’m not amazing at advice, but try doing something you love and talking to someone trustworthy if possible. I hope things get better for you <3

Maybe ring up your GP? Its best to talk to an adult and they may be able to refer you to a specialist. They'll keep everything confidential so your parents won't have to know
Its hard in the current climate to be happy and lots of people are struggling, your not alone. Maybe also try talk to ur friend or do things you enjoy in the mean time, just to distract yourself

I get really bad anxiety when it comes to doctors and always have my parents go with me, which is obviously not allowed right now. But Thankyou I will try to distract myself x

Maybe try to contact a local counselling service. From experience, they can be very helpful and kind. You might find it less daunting than speaking to a GP. If you feel the urge to hurt yourself, try snapping a hair band against your wrist or maybe squeezing the area you want to hurt. This helps a lot of people and might help you as you won't be harming yourself as much. I know it's easier said than done but try and ignore your mum. She doesn't understand just like many parents don't. Please reach out for help though, whether it's a trusted friend or a local councillor. Talking to people and getting professional help will get you through this tough time. I'm sorry you feel this way, but you'll make it. Hang in there x

Thankyou for taking the time to reply. My sister has gone through the same things years ago so I know my mum will be supportive of me but I just can’t talk about my feelings generally especially not something this big. I will try other ways other than hurting myself. It is hard but I want to be able to get past it x
