I'm currently taking BTEC applied science and A-level maths and I would like to go into biochemistry.

As a rule most Unis technically prefer A-Levels over BTECs but I was always told as long as you do well it doesn't matter. If you get say a DDM > DDD* you'll be pretty much set to go to most Universities. The fact you're doing both a BTEC and a A Level will work in your favour, aim to get all your assignments in at a D level in the first year and you should be absolutely fine. This means that the teachers will put you down a D*D*D* predicted grade which will help massively (For example I got into all the ones I applied for).
