Hi All,

very short and to the point message, I've only just got back from 5 hours of political discussions for the Students' union so had enough of politics for one day...

anyway

V105: Licensing Amendment bill 2008 has gone to vote here

The member of the month for September was DanGrover so a big well done to him and commiserations to davireland who narrowly missed out.

the noes won on the narrowest of margins for V104 PCSO removal act, so this does not pass into law.

a few people have disabled messages or have full in boxes, they are as follows:

Alasdair
Bright star
Eru Illuvatar
herbal bug

if anyone speaks to these people could they please notify them

I've now started a poll for the Minority Government as stated in the constitution.
I apologise for it being late but as you can appreciate I am doing a degree so my time is pretty sparse at the moment with a mountain of assignments and lab reports.

Please go along and vote on this as it will decide who the government and opposition are.

only MP's are allowed to vote on this so just as a warning to those parties who think because they've got the majority seats you won't be able to become the government unless all your members actually vote for you so make sure your members are signed up to the MP group asap, I'm checking it as often as i can so hopefully no one will miss out on voting.

but party leaders make sure you get people to join and vote so you can be the government etc...

Hi folks,

First of all want to wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope that you all have a fantastic time.

anyway down to business:

The labour party have sent in a second reading of their Tax Bill 2008, you can read it here

The socialist Party have put forward this bill B111 - Free school meals I've slightly broken constitution here as I received the bill today but it means i don't have to send you all a PM tomorrow regarding it.

Don't forget that there is a constitutional ammendment under discussion HERE

Any more applicants for deputy speaker need to get those to me ASAP because come the 27th I'll be creating a thread and poll for them.

also we've still got our MOTY poll still running so please go along and cast your vote.

Could all party leaders please pass on up to date MP lists to me as I seem to have people applying to the MP group saying they've been told they can join by party leaders.

Sorry for such a long message.

Hi Folks,

I'm sure you are all sick to death of continual PM's from me, especially as I seem to be cluttering up inboxes. though hearing from me can be a good thing.... shows the house is quite active.

anyway I hope you all had a good christmas whatever you did and enjoyed yourselves. I again apologise for my illness which is meaning I'm not around as much as i usually would be.

anyway down to business,

I've been given a new Bill B112 - Misuse of drugs (Legalization of Cannabis) Bill. This is a private members bill submitted by DayneD89.

Other Bills currently under discussion:

B109 - Tax Bill 2008 (Second Reading)

B111 - Free School Meals

and Current constitutional Amendments under discussion:

A24 - Constutional amendment - party formation

If you haven't already voted in it, there is the HoC MOTY poll still running and you can vote on it here

Again last request for anyone wanting to stand in as deputy speaker for a bit over the next few weeks on and off as and when i need someone to be there, could you please pm me a 150 word mini manifesto as to why you should be elected.

Cheers,

Dan

P.S:
Lucy Pevensie and veggie4life need to free up some space in their inboxes, as at present can't receive PM's

HI Folks,

Another bill has gone to voting

V111- Free School Meals Bill proposed by the socialist party has gone to vote, please make sure you re-read this bill a few minor changes have been made to this for the vote.

Other stuff for voting:

Deputy Speaker (election)

V109 - Tax Bill 2008

TSR HoC - Member of the Year

Items for discussion:

B112 - Misuse of drugs (Legalization of Cannabis) Bill

A24 - Constutional amendment - party formation (Second Reading)

please remember to vote on things and keep active, I'll be monitoring activy starting this weekend. if yopu can't be bothered to vote just go along and abstain, ideally we don't want this but its better than not voting at all. if you can't make a vote please inform me in advance so i don't think you are AWOL and also if you want a proxy voter it needs to be arranged with me well enough in advance of you not being about.

Cheers

Dan

P.S Lucy Pevensie has been banned by request so would labour like to make a decison on what is happening with her MP seat.

veggie4life still needs to empty his inbox

Hi Folks,

Firstly a Happy New Year to one and all, lets hope 2009 is as successful as 2008 was for the HoC.

First thing's first I've been pretty lax recently with announcing the results of the bills and amendments via PM which is something I always used to do.

SO far this term we've had:

V109 - Tax Bill 2008 - This Bill passed into law (21 Aye, 18 no and 1 abstention)

V110 - Abortion Reform Bill - this Bill failed and did not pass into law. (10 aye, 15 no and 9 abstentions)

A23 - Repeal of A17 - this constitutional Amendment passed and we have now removed A17 (The Constitutional Committee/Supreme Court )

Now on to current debates:

B112 - Misuse of drugs (Legalization of Cannabis) Bill has gone to a second reading.

Current Votes:

V111 - Free School Meals Bill has less than 12 hours left to vote so if you've not already voted on it can you please do so ASAP.

A24 - Constitutional amendment - party formation has also gone to a vote, as a reminder this is a secret poll and the results will only be visible once the poll closes.

I'd like to remind all MP's that they should be voting on all Bills and constitutional amendments, as of this weekend I'll be going through the lists and monitoring activity of the MP's from each party. if you start missing consecutive votes without informing me your position as an MP will be brought up with party leadership.

The results of the HoC Member of The Year have been announced, you voted for daniel_williams as your member of the year, 2nd place went to UniOfLife and joint third place went to Ukebert and Alasdair. with metrobeans, grape190190 and davireland taking the other positions respectively. thank you to everyone who voted and well done to all of you for being nominated.

Last of all i'd like to congratulate Ukebert on winning the deputy speaker election, he will be taking over as deputy speaker shortly (possibly Monday) subject to admin approval. and will be doing my job up until the 23rd January. please support him in this position and take it easy on him...

I will still be lurking about to deal with any problems that may arise but you'll not see me as active as I usually would be.

I wish you all the very best for 2009

Dan

P.s. Veggie4life still can't receive PM's so please can someone alert him to this.

Hi Folks,

This is my last message to you all before I'm off for my little break (5th January - 23rdJanuary) so any problems until my return please contact ukebert who will be covering as Deputy Speaker.

but before I go the usual matters of business.

There is a House of commons meet happening on the 24th January 2009. for more details on this please go here. (would be great to see a few more faces than we already have coming)

B112 - Misuse of drugs (Legalization of Cannabis) Bill (second Reading) is still up for discussion and will hopefully be going to a vote shortly.

currently in the division lobby you will find:

A24 - Constutional amendment - party formation

and an EDM - to congratulate and thank Ukebert

you will also notice I've gone through and started monitoring the MP Activity for voting. I would suggest that you go along and check your activity. party leaders please pay particular attention to this because i'll come back update the thread and check the activity levels again.

there are people who are supposed to be MP's who have not yet joined the MP user group could you please get those people to do so as soon as possible I will be checking this whilst im "away" and accepting them into it. i won't be contacting these people asking them to join, at the end of the day they are the votes for your party who will help you get bills through.

there are MP's who have failed to vote yet and this is not really acceptable. if the levels of inactivity continue i will contact party leaders and discuss your position as an MP. I'm not going to name and shame just yet.

Other than that, I wish you all the best for exams etc (to those of of you that have them), please be kind of ukebert and don't cause him too much grief because I'll still be watching you all from afar :p:

I'll see you all on the 24th, some of quite literally

Dan

P.s veggie4life still doesn't have enough space for PM's and a few people can't receive PM's for various reasons yuffie, vesta, overground

Firstly a reminder that V112 has gone to voting, this can be found here. Thirty-two MP's have cast their votes so far, however as it is extremely close it would be nice to have as big a turnout as possible.

Secondly the Conservatives have submitted a new bill for the attention of the House. B113 - Licensing Bill 2008 can be found here.

The Liberal Democrats have proposed a new bill; the Sexual Orientation Equality Bill can be found here.

A reminder also that the Licensing Bill 2008 is still up for discussion.

Finally I must inform the House that the Misuse of Drugs (Legalisation of Cannabis) Bill did not pass.

A quick reminder to send (or at least cc) all new bills to me rather than Daniel whilst I am Deputy Speaker.
