Which Sussex Uni Accoms are the most sociable??

I'm really struggling to choose a sussex accomodation...
Does anyone know about the social side of Lewes court? I'm also looking at Brighelm which has had mixed reviews on the social life. I guess i'm just asking which accoms are considered the party/social accoms?? Also, is having more people in a flat (i.e East Slope with 12) worth it compared to having 5/6 people?

Thank u!

Northfield probably your best bet cuz it has a bar to watch football games, there's also a bus station that stops near there and you might meet a lot of people there. Lewes Court is quite terrible cuz that's where all the fire alarms keep going off. If you're an international student you might fit in cuz there's a lot of them setting them off lol.

Hello thank you for all your questions.

As someone who has lived on campus for 3 academic years now (in range of accommodation options, including Northfield and Lewes Court), I found that more and less socially active flats can be found in all accommodation types. However, bigger flats (e.g., Park houses, East Slope) tend to be the busiest. Saying that, no matter what accommodation you end up living in, there will always be plenty of socialising opportunities on campus, and in Brighton.

Brighthelm is definitely a great accommodation choice, if you are looking to live with fewer people (max of 5 people per flat), and get to know everyone really well. It is also the only student housing on campus that benefits from its own clothes washing facilities. Thus, you will not need to use a laundrette, which is very convenient and cost efficient.

East Slope consists of en-suite and non-ensuite flats. You can normally expect to live with 9 other flat mates. In the shared bathroom flats, there is one bathroom between 2-3 people. Generally, I would say that East Slope is a very nice accommodation (from what I have seen). It is very modern, spacious and well-priced (relative to other less modern en-suites, which often cost a very similar amount).

Regarding the frequency of the fire alarms, it is fair to say that I have experienced more of them, while living in Lewes Court than in Northfield. However, this may have simply been a coincidence. While, they can be a bit of an inconvenience, the fire alarms would not normally last more than 10 min. Plus, it is good to know that fire safety is taken seriously by the university!

If you have any further worries or questions, I would recommend contacting Sussex Housing Office ([email protected]). The specific members of stuff will be able to provide you with more detailed information. Still, feel free to ask me any further questions, and I will do my best to answer them.

Best Wishes,
Kasia (4th Year Medical Neuroscience Student, MSci with a Year Abroad).
