So, I have an essay on trade unions for a level economics. I get the basic concept of what I should include. But, I'm not so sure if it's right. Here's the question:
Discuss the extent to which trade union activity may still be seen as a significant cause of labour market failure (25)
I thought I could talk about how trade unions are detrimental and can cause failure but then evaluating it using how it could be good/ other factors involved.
What do you guys think?

I have only started the trade unions topic so might not be able to cover all aspects but I would do set up an argument for a trade union in a perfectly competitive labour market ( one paragraph agreeing, one disagreeing) and an argument for a trade union in a monopsony (agree / disagree) so then you could talk about how even though in a monopsony the wage rate is increased, it's still not as allocatively efficient as there labour isn't being employed as much as it should be, and isn't being given a wage rate as high as it would be in a competitive labour market. Then from an evaluative perspective you could mention how realistically, there isn't a perfectly competitive labour market. You could also draw lots of diagrams. Hope this helped a bit
