its not big. its a little mark approx 1.5mm

Reply 3

It if its big then it can weaken the structure of the glass meaning it won't take much for it to shatter when you're driving. If the chip is in view of the driver then you will have to replace it for the MOT anyway.

Call some company like autoglazing, they cud put sum resin into the chip.

i'm sure i've seen products you can buy for correcting small chips in a windscreen ..

where?

your insurance company will subsidise the replacement of your windscreen - give them a call and get them to sort it out
i have cheap 3rd party insurance and this even reduced the cost to £15

or halfords?

good idea. will go there 2moro nd see wot they say. thx ppl

Reply 13

halfords should supply the kit to repair a chipped windscreen.

My dads car has a very small chip on the windscreen though, took it to autoglass and they said it was too small to repair by injecting resin, will see whether it passes the MOT or not (car is only 1 year old, does a lot of motorway mileage though)- if it doesn't then it'll be an insurance job as the ford heated windscreens aren't cheap :frown: .

Most insurance companies have a £50 excess on Windscreens, so you will have to pay £50, and they will pay the rest. Ive had to replace mine once because I hit a bird at 70mph and it cracked it from the top left all the way to the bottom right corner!

a small stone or summit hit my windscreen this mornin and has left a tiny little mark (took me a wile b4 i noticed it). what shud i do bout it?

I have loads on my windscreen....it will only fail the MOT if it actually cracks (rather than a chip) or if the chip is directly in your field of view (in front of you).

i think so. you have to way up the cost of a windscreen vs. the increase in insurance you'll have to pay if you claim.

As far as I aware (from my own policies) windscreen claims do not affect your NCB.

But as I said above, you may not have to replace it. I have a number of small stone chips and it has whizzed through MOTs without problems.

have just looked thru my insurance docs. it says claims made for repairing the windscreen will not affect the NCB. will sort it out 2mro (try nd get autoglass to visit me at work)
