Honestly, it's almost the end of the day and I've done next to nothing. I thought I would get more done but alas procrastination is a leech. Tbh that's why I started this blog in the first place - to motivate myself to work so I guess I just have to try my best. Hopefully I can get more done before the day even ends. School is almost starting again (just 1 more day). *big sigh*

● how I learn / study tips ●
Spoiler:
Show
MATHS: For maths it's basically just practice, practice and practice. Mathsgenie, corbett maths and maths made easy are just few of the multiple websites that have past papers and topic sheets to help you practice. Once you learn a topic just do a lot of exam questions to do with it alongside overall past papers. You might want to find specifically grade 8/9 questions to really push yourself and your knowledge.
ENGLISH: For English I would say I'm mostly visual with my revision. I make mind maps and posters for quotes and key themes. I would recommend SparkNotes, Mr Bruff (youtube), Mr Salles teaches English (youtube) and physics and maths tutor - they have loads of resources that you might find helpful. It's good to reread the text you're studying so that you have general knowledge on it and understand the main ideas. I would say practicing essay writing and getting your teachers to mark them would also help.
SCIENCE: For triple science I would recommend freesciencelessons (youtuber) - he makes videos on literally everything in the spec and overall a life saver. You can watch his videos and make notes or mind maps or something. Also make flashcards using the spec + freesciencelessons (optional) + textbook (if u can access it - most people say the cgp book and I have it as well and find it helpful). ANKI is a great app for making flashcards - it incorporates spaced repetition and active recall. Once you learn and understand the content, you can start doing practice papers from websites such as Physics and Maths tutor (they also have topic specific exam questions). Just type [exam board] science past papers and lots should come up.
HISTORY: For history I've been making mind maps using my textbooks but you can find channels on youtube as well (I don't really use youtube for history so I don't have a specific person in mind). I also plan to make flashcards to help me learn specific names and dates - this may be on ANKI or physical flashcards. Then do some past papers. Again sites like revision world have past papers as well as the official websites for your exam boards.
FRENCH: With french you need to learn vocab and grammar. I use ANKI to learn vocab but people also use Quizlet which has lots of premade cards for different subjects. Review your vocab regularly. To practice grammar, my teacher gave us a grammar booklet which I made posters from to help me learn the different tenses and things to know. I also practice reading, listening and writing using Pearson workbook. You can again find loads of past papers and practice online. I don't know if it helps but I also try to watch french youtubers and movies to get used to listening to french and maybe pick up new vocab. Memrise is amazing for learning vocab as well - it helps me review words I struggle with most.
BUSINESS: With Business I just make flashcards from my notes and review them. Business is honestly quite an easy subject for me and it's the one I feel most confident in as of now. You could also make mind maps if you would like but I rely mostly on flashcards.
RE: For RE I also make flashcards but I want to also make mind maps/posters to aid my revision. It's pretty much the same as Business if I'm being honest.
GENERAL: For overall and general tips I would say be consistent. I definitely struggled this year to be consistent in revision across all my subjects and that caused me to cram when it came to exams and tests. Try and make a revision timetable that you know you will stick to - don't measure your revision on how much time you spend but rather how much content you learn. Use your specification to learn content as it makes sure you're learning exactly what you will be tested on. You can also get like a content list of all the topics within a subject and break them down into manageable tasks that you can do each day. Active recall and spaced repetition are your best friend. Active recall means you're actively learning and retrieving the information that you've learnt. This can be through blurting (get a blank paper and write everything you know on a topic and write what you didn't know in a different pen - repeat until the amount of stuff you didn't know in a different pen reduces) or flashcards (personally I make question and answer flashcards where I write a question on one side and the answer on the other so I'm constantly testing myself). Things like highlighting or making notes would be considered passive and not really useful but do what works for you. Some people would say making notes is a waste of time, some find it useful in learning - see how it goes for you. If you think that making notes don't really make a difference to your revision then ditch it and begin on flashcards or mind maps. Spaced repetition is basically reviewing information over a period of time (1 day, 1 week, 1 month) in order to maximise your ability to retain information so that you don't forget it in the long term. The youtuber Ali Abdaal explains it way better than me. Overall make sure to be consistent, take breaks, remove distractions and try your best. Don't be afraid to ask teachers for help - that's what they're there for.

So yesterday was the first day back from half term. I downloaded an app to help me be more organised and track the things I need to do so that was helpful. In the morning I felt really productive but tired because I didn't really get much sleep the night before. I think that I'm starting to understand how to revise properly but I struggle a lot with time management. I want to do so many revision within a day but there isn't enough time in the day for me to complete all my tasks and I end up not completing my list. I'm usually tired by the time it's afternoon as well so it can be difficult for me to get work done as well. I'm often conflicted on whether or not I should revise and catch up on the things I need to do or get a full 8 hours of sleep so I can be more energised the next day. Then there are instances such as yesterday when I fall asleep straight after school and don't wake up until like 1 am in the morning which is why I'm currently writing this at 4am despite having school in a few hours. As you may have guessed, no I didn't complete my to do list so I'll be shifting everything to today so I can actually get the things I need to do done. If anyone is reading this and has tips on time management or just how they generally revise after school then please provide some. I'm contemplating the ways I want to progress in terms of revision seeing as I have a lot to do this week and next week but I am very behind. I feel like giving up tbh but I know I can't so yeah. Just got to power through another day I guess.

Wow, 2 updates within the span of 5 minutes. I was just thinking and I guess I should have talked more about the positives of yesterday. I don't want to seem too pessimistic. As I said, in the morning I was productive and manages to do like 5 minutes of reviewing my french flashcards. I also kept up to date with my blog which is an achievement since I would normally give up by now. I also completed a maths past paper and got 41/80 - considering how difficult I found that paper, yes this is an achievement. I plan to do another one today so yeah. I watched some English language paper 2 revision by Mr Salles and did a past paper on it as well.

Okay so today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I managed to do my corbettmaths 5 a day and I actually did a maths past paper today! I haven't yet gotten the chance to mark it but this is actually an achievement for me seeing my disgraceful time management. Anyways, I also did a history quiz in which I got 75% correct so woohoo. I plan to do more revision this evening but yeah I'm glad that I was able to get through online school and actually do something. I need to practice for my French speaking exam though. Also, in terms of the news that we're returning on the 8th of March, I feel kinda eh about it. Like on the one side, I miss seeing my teachers and friends in real life - online school is bearable but not the best. However, I know that when we return to school we will be bombarded with tests and assessments. Seeing as I'm only recently making progress in terms of productivity, I will actually have a break down if they make me do a science paper like the week after we get back. On a more positive not though, I am very grateful to TheNotoriousEGB for informing me of Mr Salle's free English guide. This is will help me immensely in my revision and seeing as I pretty much failed my English literature paper in our mocks, it could actually allow me to show that I'm better than the exam we did in December.
