I really hate uni parties. Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I just really hate them.
I know with covid it's difficult to socialise in halls but I just wanted to ask for some advice and see if anyone else feels the same.
It's hard to put it into words but I really dislike the thought of socialising with people who I don't know, talking about random rubbish and drinking for the sake of getting drunk and then taking pictures for Instagram to show off the fact that they're having a 'good time'.
Do the lads really think it's cool to dress up in their female flat mates' clothes for the night? I didn't even know it was a thing...I feel there's so many people in my accommodation who just came to uni to party and not focus on the work.
Do I consider myself an introvert? I don't really know. I'm still discovering that. What I can say is I have a close circle of friends who I wouldn't mind having a good time at the pub/club with but when it comes to parties (not really a party when you're not celebrating anything other than getting drunk) I really can't stand it. Every time my flat goes to a party I never attend them and I dread it when they have one in my kitchen, shouting all night playing drinking games...another pet peeve of mine.
Anyway, does anyone share my view?

Share that view completely, I started university this year too and I’m exactly the same as you. I requested an alcohol-free flat to avoid it, which I did (for the most part) but my only flatmate in semester 1 was a partier so it got real lonely real quick.
I did manage to find friends though, through texting on my course and on a uni group chat. There’s definitely ways to meet a couple of people, although it is a bit of luck for people like us right now. I’m hopeful that next year will be better, when there are more things for people like us to do beside walking around a park every day of the week
