Anyone else received this little booklet from the GTC?

Personally, I think the first question should have been something like this:

Q1 Do you give a **** about the GTC? Please tick one box only. If you answered Yes, skip
Questions 2 - 44.

I have to admit, I don't even think I understand some of the stupid questions they ask.

It even has a unique serial number on the front of the returnable booklet - which should be returned
by 1 July.

Yeah, right!

Seeing as the GTC can't answer a phone or an email - but can spend money on this rubbish I'm kinda
glad i still haven't paid them - and won't til someone tells me how a supply teacher working for an
agency gets the £33 from the Govt.

Unfortunately i can't ask them by phone as i keep getting cut off and they won't answer my emails so
I can't pay them.

Consultation questionnaires of this kind are a New Labour standby. They used such questionnaires
when they abolished Clause 4 of the Labour Party constitution. The only allowed questions consisted
of "what you would like to replace clause 4 with? Choose from the following list..." not the
question whether you wanted to abolish it.

Likewise the questions in this survey are a fake and any response can be read as support for the GTC
or support for a wider role for the GTC.

Of course we agree on a lot of things. In a forum like this the disagreements come to the fore.
Imagine a discussion group in which we all list what we agree about

Boring.

I'm gonna fill it in. Only then will I have the right to whinge about it. It's like voting - if you
don't take part, how can you justify an opinion on the issue?

I must disagree, Andy. It's nothing like voting.

As User1951 has said in an earlier part to this thread, filling in the form is merely affirming your
support for the GTC (and, I presume, agreeing to the £33 deduction from your salary).

If no-one were to complete and send back the form that really would send a clear signal.

And, surely, for a questionnaire to have any relevance it must ask questions which can be both
easily understood and actually answered.

Why have they, for instance, set up a body (the GTC) for which they have to ask the shanghaied
membership what they should now be doing.

"Have you stopped beating your wife?" Yes or No! springs to mind.

StJohn

P.S. If you feel inclined to spoil the paper by simply ticking 'None of these' to every question,
remember that your unique serial number is printed on the front of the booklet.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. It is a fake consultation with fake questions which prevent you from
expressing an opinion.

Take part if it makes you happy.

Do not think that those who did not take part in this charade will have to stop criticising this
unrepresentative bunch of Tony's cronies.

I've not had time to look at this group since the holiday, but I also received the "survey".

I'm not returning it, but have sent the following e-mail to the GTCE. I wonder if they'll reply!

"I object strongly to my enforced registration fee being used to conduct a "government style" poll.

The questions and choices offered were cleverly composed, being ambiguous enough to prevent my true
opinion from being registered.

I perceived this to be a public relations exercise, aimed at promoting the GTCE.

I also object to the vast amount of money which has been spent, again "government style" on the
glossy publicity brochure and poll forms. What is wrong with using basic paper for your propaganda
and for the poll?

The result of this communication has reinforced my impression that the the GTCE is not to support
the chalk face teacher, but to assist the goverment in their continued "interference" policy.

I will not be returning my feedback form."

Sorry, but it's nothing like beating your wife. I approve of GTC, and so ought ALL union members -
their unions campaigned for it for decades.

Unless MORI have suddenly become corrupt the GTC won't ever get to know who answer what. It even
says that on the front of the booklet.

BTW you obviously haven't read the booklet that came with the questionnaire as in it you would find
that they are only taking £23 this year. - and you can claim a tax rebate of £17.94.

If you approve of the GTC then fill in the questionnaire. Notice however that the questionnaire
is worded in such a way that any way of filling it in either endorses the GTC or seeks to extend
its powers.

If that is not your opinion then there is no useful purpose in filling it in.

You might feel just a little uneasy at supporting a body which resorts to such dirty tricks.

The argument that unions campaigned for a General Teaching Council and that therefore this travesty
run by Tony's cronies is a good thing has a flaw in it somewhere...I wonder if you can spot it.

I will also continue to argue against Tony's so called policies for education. He is presiding over
an imploding education system. What are YOU gonna do about it, though? just carry on whinging and
holding your head between your legs so you can kiss your arse goodbye when the whole system
collapses? Do something that will wrest power from the cronies and amateurs and get the education
system back into the hands of those who understand it.
