So basically i’m a first year now and i have a pretty low budget for socialising, £25 per week, but this hasn’t really been an issue for me this year with covid. I managed to get by when stuff was open at the start of term, except from the last week before lockdown when i spent like £60 instead. But now i’m getting concerned about next year with clubs opening etc as i can imagine nights out are more expensive if you’re having to pay to get into clubs ?

So i’m just wondering how much does it actually cost to go clubbing as i’ve never been to one? And how much do people usually go out to clubs/ out in general when in 2nd year ? I feel like i’ve heard some ppl say they still go out 3/4 times a week like they did in 1st year but others say it’s more like once a week. I can’t imagine myself wanting to go to a club more than once a week as i’m not rlly sure if they’re my scene, especially for the price, but I’m living with new people next year so idk how much they like going out/ if they rlly like clubbing or would prefer to just go to the pub. I mean they seem more like my type of people compared to my current flatmates but tbh i don’t know most of them very well at all. I am on quite an intense course and hopefully will be able to get more involved with societies next year so tbf i might feel like i don’t need to rely on socialising through drinking as much but i still don’t wanna feel left out.

I think with not really experiencing university as normal this year i’m now just worrying about what it’s gonna be like when it all goes back to normal as it’s going to be all new all over again.

Hey e2002!

It will be strange experiencing a new normal when everything opens up again and you’re back on campus, try not to worry about it too much as everyone will be in the same position. It sounds like you’re looking forward to moving into a new place next year. I would recommend going along to societies as it’s a great way to meet new people.

It’s tough trying to budget at uni, especially when you want to go out clubbing. I used to go out around 3/4 times a week during my first and second year. Nights out can get expensive if you’re going to the pub then go clubbing. Most clubs usually charge between £6-£8 entry fee (depending where you live). I used to easily spend about £40-£60 after budgeting money for entry, drinks in the club, taxi home and food at the end of the night. My student loan covered my rent and then the money I earned from my part-time job would help pay for monthly allowances such as food/petrol/clothes and any additional expenses e.g. going to bars or the cinema with friends.

In my final year I didn’t enjoy clubbing anymore and concentrated a lot more on my studies. The £40-£60 that I saved by not going on nights out went into a holiday fund and my friends and I were able to go on a girls holiday at the end of our final year. I wouldn’t feel peer pressured to going out lots during the week. I always enjoyed having a girls night in, watching movies and relaxing.

Hope this helps!
