if i decide i dont want to do the course i applied to anymore, could i reject my firm on results day and go through clearing instead?

yes - IF they've made your offer unconditional on results day then you can release yourself into clearing.
Around 1/8 of applicants don't have a decision on results day - if you're hoping to use clearing then you're better off not picking a firm choice than picking one that you plan to withdraw from.

If you've booked accommodation then you'll need to look at any deposit or cancellation fees incurred.
