Do the footnote numbers contribute to the word count - History NEA?

Hi! I'm currently 250 words over on my History NEA, but I noticed that when you highlight, say, the tiny '1' that connects to the footnotes (I made mine manually, so this may not apply), the little numbers count as a single word? Does this add to the word count because I assumed it does a few weeks ago, but I may be 359 words over instead...? Thanks!

might be worth asking your teacher or looking on the mark scheme :smile:
