Deduce a half-equation for the reduction of bromine in aqueous solution ?
On the mark scheme the answer is: Br2 + 2e- --> 2Br-
Why does Br have a minus charge ?

Br2 had a charge of 0, electrons have a negative, -1 charge. So 0 + -1 is -1 charge overall. Hence you get 2 Br- ions. Reduction is gain of electrons.
