not many disadvantages unless you keep it on for too long (increase K values)

Yep. Calcium too. Also a small increased infection risk I suppose, if you don't wash it between patients or use a disposable one.

Point being: none of those are going to affect a normal VBG, unless you're using it to check potassium, in which case you can still use it as long as its not on too long.
