I'm in second year right now... but this year I've just been struggling so much. I'm barely making the deadlines, if I am I usually forget to add a few stuff, and I do a creative degree and the quality of my work has just decreased massively. I know I can do better.

I'm so close to third year now. That year is what counts, I don't think I'm ready mentally. If I continued, I feel like I would fail or get a third. I want a 2.1. I think something is wrong mentally... but I'm probably just exaggerating by this point. Still, I don't understand why I'm acting this way and why it's making me so scared.

I think personally... I need to take a year out of university. Do you think this is a good reason? I personally think I need some time to look at myself properly and improve, but since it's a creative degree, I have no time to do that atm, everything feels rushed. My skills are also lacking, I want to at least improve that.

I go to NTU. If you are from NTU, let me know if they'll accept these types of reasons...

Suspending your studies doesn’t usually require you to give a reason other than “I want to”.

I hope so. I’m just afraid to ask incase my reason looks stupid and lazy to my department. I want to improve myself desperately but I can’t find the time. I also said a year since it wouldn’t complicate the process of student finance etc.
I think I’ve seen on other threads that you need extenuating circumstances to do so. If so, I feel a bit trapped but I guess I get it.
Thank you for replying

If you tell your department that you’re considering dropping out but maybe a gap year instead then they’ll jump all over the possibility of retaining you instead of losing you.
