Do you think Graphic design is a good field to go into? Also which other careers can graphic design take you to?

Hello,
Graphic Design is an excellent field to go into and can take you to many places, including other creative subjects such as animation, illustration etc. One of my personal favourites, a Creative Director. (It's also the field I want to go into!)

Graphic Design is a fantastic career with a huge range of career paths. The best thing about studying creative degrees like Graphic Design is that you are able to direct your own degree in terms of what you specialise in. For example, I am a third year BA (Hons) Animation student at PCA, and I have decided that I want to specialise in 2D Rigged Character Animation. Other classmates have chosen a range of specialisms, such as storyboarding, graphic novel design, character design, 3D animation, stop-motion, etc. This means that if you chose to study BA (Hons) Graphic Communication, you could choose what area of the graphics industry you'd like to work in (something that you can spend first and second year figuring out!). Some examples of graphic design careers are:
- Graphic Designer (obviously! Freelance or at a studio. This would involve tasks like designing logos, creating illustrations, organisation of layouts for magazines or websites, advertising etc)
- Creative Director/ Art Director
- Production Artist
- User Experience/ User Interface designer
- Motion Graphics Animation
A degree can be a great way to find out which area of Graphic Design you are interested in. Perhaps take a look at some job prospects websites to see what roles in Graphic Design appeal to you! Again, it's a great industry with lots of career avenues. You could also find yourself working in Illustration or Animation

I hope this helps and if you'd like to get in touch with our Graphic Communication lecturers to ask more about the industry, then please feel free to message me!

I didn’t think of taking photography and media because media already has a bit of film/music video/photography in it and btec cs has social media in business and web design 🤷🏿*♀️

I currently do BTEC media and it doesn't have that much photography in it. But there are opportunities in the modules to take photos. Taking photography alongside will boost your portfolio to then go on for graphic design. BTEC ict sounds interesting then.
