Where is the best freshers accomodation in newcastle?

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if there are any previous Newcastle fresher students who would share past experiences of their accommodation like the pros and cons etc. I was considering applying for accommodation in Windsor Terrace (if i get an offer of course) as it looks really good and is very close to the university. Anyone stayed there before that could review it or any other places for that matter. Thanks.

I just started at newcastle and am in Richardson Road. Its pretty claas here to be honest but ive heard windsor terrace is good too. I'd steer clear of henderson hall as it is a bit of a trek on the bus every day.
Thanks for the help duffman I just gave you some plus rep btw:smile:
Windsor Terrace is the closest to the main campus and is in a really nice surrounding. Places there are limited and it is really popular so it is competitive to get a place there. Henderson Hall is meant to be better than Castle Leazes; I've heard that the latter doesn't have as nice rooms and the environment isn't as good etc.

Richardson Road/Marris House/Leazes are your best bet (close to town/large number of people) although they are a bit grotty. the one on Gallowgate street is supposed to really nice Bowsden Court i think.

Victoria Hall has just been built, Its very close to town. I think its likely quite plush.

Henderson Hall is horrible, there is nothing nice about it. Leazes is so much better.

I've been to most halls except Victoria and Bowsden if you want info on them, Second year btw.

edit: Windsor terrace is a bit out from the main block of accommodation tbh, Marris House is next to Richardson road and pretty much identical, just in terms of socialising with people it comes in useful being closer,

The one on Gallowgate is Magnet Court
im staying at victoria hall which was new for this year! the halls are really nice with good facilities! the only downside though is that its on the northumbria uni campus!

Im currently at richardson rd. Although it isn't much to look at, it has one of the cheapest rents. The atmosphere is really friendly and there are loads of parties ;]

Do not stay at henderson, its waay to far from campus (30/40 minute walk), so it will cost you in buses, etc.

Richardson Road does look horrible but I had the time of my life there. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't enjoy clubbing or don't think you'll go in for the uber-student lifestyle. I don't know a single person who lived there who regrets it.

Castle Leazes and Henderson Hall are largely populated by rich Southerners, as is Magnet Court. Marris House has a lot of foreign students but is like a toned down Ricky Road.

Windsor Terrace was my second choice and if I had to apply again it'd still be my second. Nicer surroundings than Ricky Road, about 2 minutes from the library (handy for revision periods) and a good atmosphere but still lacking the student atmosphere of Ricky Road.

I was in Windsor Terrace when I was a fresher, and it's really nice, and as everyone has said, so close to uni, and really handy for town, dead close to a metro stop... twas great. I'd recommend that if you want self-catering, but if you want catered then I would recommend Castle Leazes. It's not entirely rich southerners, and it's the biggest of all the halls so there would be a good mix of people. It's not far from uni, nicely laid out etc.

No-one's mentioned St Mary's yet - it's also quite a way out, but it's not an unreasonable walk to uni. It's self-catering and it's really nice, and although probably a lot calmer than the others, everyone there seemed genuinely really nice, decent people. Also pretty handy for Morrisons.

I keep being told that Richardson is a bit grotty... if that's the case, are there any rooms with 'nicer' rooms? Like newly furbished? I suppose it's not a big deal though if you're living with the right people xx
Would you class yourself as a rah? Leazes all the way!

If not? Anywhere but. Probably Marris House or Windsor Terrace are the best.

And nobody likes Henderson Hall... its expensive and MILES away.

Not a rah, but Marris House or Windsor Terrace look good. I'm sure with the right people the accommodation is kind of irrelevant x

I saw Victoria halls (if that's the brand new one) and it was really fancy. I mean, flats got their own quality TV's and the gates spoke to you when you went in! But then, its much more fun having a basic room somewhere like Richardson Road cos then you don't worry bout making a mess as much and can just enjoy yourself.

Plus who wants to pay £100 for a room a week!

Omg, the gates spoke? :|
What did they say?
I've just left uni, reapplying VERY quickly... my halls were only £60 a week, our kitchen was tiny but it was ace! I'm just suprised at how expensive it is everywhere else. xx
It depends what you want with accom, but there are a number of places where you can get £60 per week once you move out of first year accom.

I don't know if "grotty" is the right word for it. It looks very ugly on the outside (as does Castle Leazes where I am) but you can make it nice on the inside. It won't be dirty unless you make it that way but the walls are just bricks with paint covered, so it doesn't seem too cosy. That said, people there seem to like it a lot and it's the place to be if you don't want to be around "rahs" - I'm told it's northern dominated though.

I'm hoping to go to Newcastle Uni starting September this year, but can't decide which accommodation out of Castle Leazes or Henderson Hall to go for?

I would prefer a ensuite but wouldn't be too bothered if Castle Leazes is much better.
