I applied to university of York and Nottingham Trent to do psychology, I got rejected from York because of my GCSE maths grade and they said I can change course so I chose criminology, I'm not sure to pick the course I want to do or the uni I think I'll fit in more

100% choose the university you want and try and change when you get there. York is a much better university than Trent and will do more for you in the future. Problem you will have though is that Psych is an applied science degree and Criminology is basically Sociology with a certain focus. They aren't even in the same faculty - if you don't get it changed very quick, it's going to be a problem. Try to at least get on a joint honours with psychology first and then get switched over.

Alternatively, if you think you're going to have fun with criminology - stick with that as you're at the uni you like.

I don't think they'll accept me because they rejected me originally cause I didn't have a 5 in GCSE maths (I have a 4) I would really like that though but I can't see a way round the issue

I don’t quite understand. Are you saying York will take you but only on criminology?
Trust your gut instinct and listen to what your feelings are telling you.
Choose the uni where you believe you will have the opportunity of creating the best memories for the 3 years of your undergrad and being in a safe environment where you are happy.
If it were me, I would go for York and criminology.
Good luck!

Yeah only for criminology

I presume the York Criminology is a BA then.

If your Maths isn't that great, it might be for the best if you don't have A level maths.

If you wanted to go to York, my advice would be to take that offer and have a great time there.

I would personally disagree with the comments. Ask you yourself what do you want the degree for? Criminology is not the same as Psychology, what career did you want? Also, what are you basing your opinion of York on? It is so important you like the course and enjoy it, but also remember uni is for 3 years, and the degree is for life. My advice is to try and find a balance between the two, not one over the other.

Good luck with your decision,

Greg
What do you want to do beyond your degree? If you want to become a psychologist down the line you really should do a psychology degree that's accredited by the British Psychological Society. If it isn't it's going to an awful lot harder to get into that route as many masters require an accredited undergraduate degree.

I already have them I'm currently on a gap year, I got BB Dis, York have offered me an unconditional contextual offer for criminology, because they said I could choose a different course but not psychology because of the maths GCSE, so I chose criminology

Nottingham Trent psychology is accredited but I'm not sure what carer I'd like to do

I'm not sure what carer I'd like to do in the future but I do prefer psychology, I like the idea of York being a campus uni

Very different courses.
Dont go study something you have no interest in. What happens in a year or two when you hate the degree & lose motivation...

Surprised you didnt check the course entry requirements before applying.

If you want any advice about Psychology, let me know.

Doing a degree does not have to, or always leads to work specialising in the field. However, I would really consider taking time to think about the degree and what you will do after. Remember you often only get 1 lot of student finance, and you need to make it work for you moving forward.

The biggest thing that made a difference for me at uni, was the course and enjoying it and also seeing where it could take me. I would say forget the style of campus, it will not matter that much if you hate the course or you feel like you are wasting your time.

Really good luck,

Greg

I think you might be going to get problems with Psychology in many places. It really boils down to what do you feel. How would you feel about Criminology. Does it interest you. Psychology has a Maths requirement hence why so many universities have a minimum requirement. Your other option is to research universities entry requirements to see who would take you with grade 4 Maths. If a university asks for a Maths GCSE grade they dont change it however good your A level results.

What was your maths grade?
Did u meet the entry requirements they asked for on the website and still rejected you?
Go for course over university. I would not recommend starting a course you have no intention of finishing on the basis that you want to switch. If you can't switch, you're stuffed.

Ill easily exceed the entry requirements but worried ill be rejected because of my GCSEs

GCSEs are generally pretty cut and dry (exceptions being Oxbridge/medicine/similar).

If you meet the minimum GCSE requirement they rarely matter, they then base admission off A-level/BTEC

If you fail to meet the GCSE requirements then rejection is probable.
