Wearing rival team's shirt

I have an offer from Manchester (AAA) alongside two others in the UK. I want to ask what will happen if you wear your team's shirt in a rival city. I think that I will be putting all my Liverpool shirts away if I go to Manchester, especially when United is playing at home. There may be people hurting me and singing abusive chants at me if I wear a Liverpool shirt, given that Liverpool vs Man Utd is the biggest football rivalry in the country.
I have seen news articles of a Man Utd fan being headbutted in a Leeds pub. Will this happen to all rivalries in the UK?

I think it's quite immature to make a big deal over a shirt. Leeds' rivals are Huddersfield, so I'm not sure whether the incident occurred over that. However, if not wearing a Liverpool shirt makes you feel safe, then that's ok.

Depending where you go you might not be allowed to wear such things, esp if the clubs/locations have bad blood.
I'm up in Scotland and wearing football tops in most educational/professional environments is a big nono, you'd be sent home. No one gives a monkeys if you wear a Rugby/Hockey jersey though.

There will be pubs that will refuse you entry if you are wearing football colours. Or if you are a visiting supporter (in the case of Manchester United, the tourists may be allowed in).
