I didn't know you could choose specific places to gain weight. How is that possible?

Because you're building muscle in that specific area you're working out, and muscle weighs more than fat.
Muscle does not weigh more than fat, its just more dense but thats irrelevant to the question anyways.

This is also known as strength or weight training. If you do this from home I recommend a set of kettle bells and that is all you need. Download the app kettle bells from app store, it's great, and do a 20 minute workout a day (you don't need rest days). This is the only resistance training you will need.

Resistance training is where you think "sod that, I can't be bothered going to the gym today".

Sorry, misread thread title. I thought it said resistance to training.
