Ratio

Carlo puts tins into small boxes and into large boxes.
He puts 6 tins into each small box.
He puts 20 tins in each large box.

Carlo puts a total of 3000 tins into the boxes so that
number of tins in small boxes : number of tins in large boxes = 2 : 3
Carlo says that less than 30% of the boxes filled with tins are large boxes.

Is Carlo correct?

What have you tried so far?

I divided 3000 by 5 because 2+3=5
then I times that by the small boxes and large boxes - 2 : 3
I ended up getting the ratio 1200 : 1800
And now I'm not sure how to prove whether he's right or wrong

I also get 1200:1800 so this means there are 1800 tins in large boxes (total) and 1200 tins in small boxes (total). Now I would compare the total number of tins in the large boxes to the total number of tins (get the percentage and check whether it is less than 30%)
find 30% of 3000 and see if it is less than 1800
As there are 3000 tins we will have to fraction up the value of tins into how many are in the small and large box SB : LB2 : 3 = 2 3 = 5 3000/5 = 600SB= 600x2 = 1200 tins in small boxes LB = 600x 3 = 1800 tins large boxes You will now have to find the amount of boxes there are of large and small Small boxes 1200/ 6 = 200 small boxes 1800/20 = 90 large boxes To find if Carlo is right - you will have to find the percentage of large boxes amongst the value of all the boxes in total Total boxes = 200 90 = 290 Large boxes = 90 Percentage 90/290 = 0.31044X100 = 31% Carlo is incorrect
You have to find 30% of the boxes
find 30% then see if it’s less than 30%

Didn't you see that the thread is almost a year old? I think that this question is already done.
