Higher English QWatch
I have a question about my english essay (higher)
Do I lose marks/ is it plagiarism if I write the same essay as someone (as I have pretty much memorised mine for the exam) in my exam???- It's just my friend and I worked together to write it and have both learned it pretty much off by heart now so I just need to know if I will get penalised or if its fine- idk if they even plagiarism check essays or just the assignments?????
you might find this thread useful, I was just talking to somebody about this <https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6986112>
Personally I'd advise not sharing and memorising essays. Because basically, if your essays are more or less identical (changing a few phrases here and there doesn't work) then it counts as collusion.
I'd definitely say speak to your teacher or ring up your exam board's help line.
If you're after some practical advice in the meanwhile,
1. write your own ideas and essay plans down and don't share them - there's nothing wrong with exchanging ideas, but I'd suggest keeping your essays between yourself and your teacher will reduce the risk of academic misconduct massively.
2. plagarism checkers are run on exams (GCSE, A Level, AS Level, BA Hons, PHD) I don't know what level your at, but for almost every official exam they DO check for plagiarism.
3. don't rely on that one essay you memorised. There's a higher likelihood you'll be penalised for academic misconduct *and* you answer will end up being formulaic and may not actually fit the question if it's different to how you expected
Hope this helps,
